Here is my interview with Jacquie Biggar

Age: 51

Where are you from: Originally Alberta, Canada. We moved to Victoria, British Columbia a couple of years ago and LOVE IT!

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc: I was a stay-at-home mom until our daughter began school. DH and I both agree a child needs their parents around when they are young. A couple of years later we had the opportunity to buy the restaurant I was working at, so after much debate we jumped in with both feet J HUGE learning curve, but I loved every tired minute, lol. We kept the original name, Bluejay Café, and ran it for thirteen happy years.

When my daughter, a single mother with a then five year old son, decided to go after her dream and moved to Victoria to begin university for marine biology, we followed to lend a helping hand. A few months turned into a year, then another. It became too difficult to keep the café running from twelve hundred miles away, so we sold it and our house and settled here.

No regrets. We get to spend time knowing our grandson and supporting our daughter. Life is good.  

 

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

Well, I’ve had a great month. The second book in my Wounded Hearts series, The Rebel’s Redemption, published in February. I was invited to join a group of best selling authors to help promote each others work and get the word out about special sales and contests. Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I first knew I liked writing back in school. We had a short story project to complete and I was running out of time. In desperation I wrote a story from a vase of flowers my mom had bought. I called it Count Daffodil. It won top honors and was read aloud in the school! After that, I was hooked.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I guess when I came to Victoria and was looking for something to pass the time. I was used to working twelve hour days at the restaurant, so I needed to get involved with something here. I decided to take a page from my daughter’s book, and go after my dream, writing.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

My first book came from an event on the news. They were talking about a lawyer who was shot in his own driveway in front of his family. It was later determined he had connections to a well-known Mexican cartel.

My immediate thought was, how did the wife cope with finding out her husband was corrupt? My story grew from there.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I’d like to think so, J Actually, I like doing male POV. Men usually say what they mean, quite often with sarcasm. I enjoy that style of writing.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I had a different title when I started both books I’ve written now. Then I get about halfway through and have an ah-ha moment where something else just fits.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? My books are second chance romances. I want readers to believe that it’s never too late for love to enter their lives.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I think most of my books are realistic.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

My books are based on small town life, something I grew up with. Also I have a café in my books, Grits and Grace, which is a landmark in the town and the place everyone goes to connect with one another. Much like my place J

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

I love Suzanne Brockmann books. No one does characterization like she does.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

One of hers, Do or Die: Reluctant Heroes

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Kathryn Jane, Elizabeth Heiter, Anna Markland, Sylvie Grayson, Reggi Allder

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I’m currently working on the third book in the Wounded Hearts series tentatively titled, Twilight Theatre. This is the story of a young love gone wrong.

Ty Garrett loved Katy Fowler from the first moment he saw her. When circumstances yank the young couple apart, Ty becomes angry and bitter.

Years later Katy returns to Tidal Falls to get married in her favorite place, her family’s theatre not expecting her old life to slam into her new one with the force of an explosion. Ty Garrett, the boy she never forgot, was now the man she needed to help prepare the Twilight theatre for her upcoming wedding.

When a series of sabotages wreak havoc on the theatre and threaten Katy, can Ty save her and win back her love, or is it too late?

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

RWA- Romance Writers of America. Without the support of other writers I’ve met through this organization and the learning experiences garnered from online classes, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Yes, and isn’t it great to be able to make a career doing something you love? 😀

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, I love how The Rebel’s Redemption came together. Jared is one of those characters with a super strong personality. Easy to write.

 

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Killion Group, they’re fantastic to work with.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

I think deciding where the story should go. I’m a pantser, which means I write by the seat of my pants. Some days the words come easily, other days not at all.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Let the characters speak to you, don’t force their voice.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Classes on writing are essential, as is getting and maintaining a social media presence. You need to form a bond with your readers and social media is the only way to make that happen.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

The first book that I remember reading was Black Beauty. I love that book to this day.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

My grandson 😀

 

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

She lived her dream. Everything I’ve truly wanted to achieve in life I’ve done. I call that blessed, don’t you?

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

I love flower gardening, combing the beach, reading.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I don’t have much time for either, but I do watch The Blacklist, love it, and The Amazing Race.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

 I love Chinese food, Seafood. My favorite color is red. For music I like variety.
