Name  Heidi Lis

Age 45

Where are you from: I grew up in Iowa, but now reside in Washington, State.

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc :

I have a husband and four children. They keep us plenty busy. We enjoy all the outdoor activities this beautiful state has to offer, so we take advantage of exploring new things all the time. Late at night is my time to write. Trying to find quiet times during the day just never happens.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I released my 2nd novel, Never Give Up in September. Right now, I’m finishing up my revamped version to my debut novel, Defying Fate. I’ll be uploading that within the next week or two. I’m super excited to announce, my current WIP is the second book to Defying Fate. My revised version that I’ll be uploading includes a new ending setting up book 2.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I’ve always wanted to write a book. The desire was always there, but my shyness held me back. It took a near death experience for me to have a new outlook on life. I have to live for today because tomorrow is never promised.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

That’s a great question. After my first book had come out and I started writing the second. I think that’s when it hit me. That, I can do this.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

I’m an avid reader and a storyteller in my mind. I started out with a single idea, and as I began writing it, the story took on a life of its own. I let my imagination take charge and let the story develop with each word.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I pride myself on making my stories realistic in nature. I like real life situations. I’m an emotional person, so I tend to write emotionally. My goal is to reach my readers in such a way they are forced to become emotionally involved.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

For Defying Fate, it was all about my cover and storyline. The model was the perfect person for my cover, because when I looked at her, I saw my character. Not only her physical features but the raw expression on her face. Never Give Up, was easier for me. I had the name picked out from the beginning. It’s the message the book delivers from start to finish.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I want my readers to feel every emotion my characters can bring out in them.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I strive to make my storylines very realistic.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Not per say, no, but I’ve taken some events in my life and weaved them into my storylines.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

I have a few authors I greatly enjoy reading. All in different genres. Sydney Sheldon started my obsession to becoming a twenty book a month reading addict. After years of reading so many great books, I wanted to tell my stories.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I’m not reading anything at the moment. My free time is dedicated to writing for now. I’ll get back to reading soon.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I love finding new writers to follow. Waiting for me on my Kindle is Xavier Cold by Michelle Valentine.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I’m working on Liam and Kara’s story that takes place right after Defying Fate ends.  I don’t have a name just yet, but I can tell you, I’m having a lot of fun with this one.

My other project has been one in the making for awhile. I’ve not fully committed to finishing it, I tend to come back to it now and then. My goal after I finish with Liam and Kara’s story is to finish that other one. It’s an incredibly emotional story, and part of that is the reason it’s taken me this long. Writing it has been an emotional journey for me.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

I had a person reach out to me at a time when I needed it the most. That individual took time out of his daily life to help me when it came to the art and style of writing. We worked on many different aspects of the whole writing journey. I learned a great deal from my time with him. The only thing he asked in return is to ‘give back’ and help others. That, and to keep his name private. For this person, it was not about him, it was about helping me evolve as a writer. That person changed my life.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I see writing as a way of life for me.  A personal journey to push myself. It’s therapeutic for me too, a way to escape my day. Published or not, I would still write my stories.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Not so much in my latest book. My first book, yes! That is why I’m revising it now. I wanted certain scenes to be changed. I’ve added bonus chapters to highlight individual characters. The biggest surprise is in the newly revised ending.  I’m most excited about that.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

After high school for sure. It was normal for me to have several journals with outlines, short stories, things of that nature just lying around.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Getting my character’s dialogue to flow seamlessly is most challenging. Remaining true to that character’s style.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I write romantic suspense. For me, the best part is building up to the point you unleash your biggest surprise. The ‘wow, didn’t see that coming’ part. Lisa Gardner and James Patterson are my favorite mystery writers, they had the ‘wow’ down perfectly.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

I’ve not traveled. Having four children, that’s not possible for now.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Shardel designed Defying Fate- ‘Pink Ink Designs’ created Never Give Up.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The beginning is the hardest part for me.  Finding the perfect scene to start your whole adventure with. It’s significant, and often for me, it changes a LOT.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

To remember to stay true to the character in the story. Making sure that you’re consistent throughout the whole book.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Never stop writing, never stop trying to learn all that you can.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I would want them to know that I appreciate each one of them. I hope they enjoy the stories that I’ve written and to thank them.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

The Hobbit. My first series were the Sweet Valley High books.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Everything, I’m an emotional person.

Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?

Lady Diana, if ever a person it would be her. I can’t think of a more genuine and caring humanitarian.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

Oh, not that I enjoy this question, but…it would say, ‘I was a loving and caring person.’

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

I collect rocks from the beaches we travel and visit. My collection is growing pretty fast.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

The Voice- Survivor- Amazing Race-Empire. I am a huge football (Nebraska) & hockey fan (Chicago Blackhawks) as well.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

I like Mexican and Chinese. My favorite color is yellow—I love all sorts of music. Maroon 5- favorite group.

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

I worked in the dental field for much of my younger years. I was then involved in helping run a family owned business for many years before I started to raise my children.

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?

Here is my interview with Marlowe Fox

Name Marlowe Fox

Age

Almost 33

Where are you from

I was born and raised in Oregon but now live in Eastern Washington.

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I have a BS in Psychology but discovered about midway through the bachelors program that I didn’t really want to make a career out of it. This was the same time that I was taking some extracurricular English classes. I have always loved to write and create stories but in three years of gruelling I hadn’t done much of it. Taking the English classes renewed my love for writing and I started a YA paranormal story that has sense been shelved, maybe I’ll finished it someday.

My family is wonderful, it’s just my fiancé, our almost 3 year old son, me, and a couple dogs. Moving to Washington has been trying as we moved away from our family and friends, and Eastern Washington is very different from the free and weird Portland area that we are used to.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

Well with Manage Me finally being done and out, I am kind of laying low. I’m contemplating how the next book is going to go and what I want to do with it. I know who it’s going to be and the basic outline but I am still working on all the little details. I have started writing it though. I think this story is going to be a lot of the past. Readers are going to see Jaden, Ashton, Finn, and Ryker as kids growing up together and starting Toven’s Circus.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I started writing in school originally. I had a wonderful English teacher in high school, Ms. Moffitt, who really pushed us and dug into the reading material that she taught. To this day Shakespeare’s Richard III, is the one bit of Shakespeare that I know inside out and backwards that way, and I remember it all! She was very encouraging with me, in high school I wanted to be a screen writer/director. I still have several graded papers from her and we are friends on facebook. I haven’t told her or sent her the book though. Not sure I want to share my smutty book with my former high school English teacher. Hahaha!

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

It still comes and goes, haha. But it really hit me when I held the proof in my hands. Jumping up and down and crying may have happened.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

I’ve always been a dreamer and Manage Me is just that. I’ve always loved music and when I was in my late teens and early twenties, I was always going to rock shows. I had my crushes on different people and always hoped that I would meet them, we would fall in love, and have this whorl wind romance.  Sadly while I met many of my crushes over the years we never fell in love, okay maybe I did but I was usually too shy to talk to them past getting an autograph and maybe a picture.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I don’t think so because all of the characters are different and I write in their voice. They all have different ways of saying things and I try hard to stay true to their voice. I actually argued with my aunt, who is also an editor for a magazine, about it as she wanted me to make many changes to put the writing in proper context. My argument was that this is them telling the story in their voice and no one walks around talking in proper context all the time, it’s not essay on behaviorisms in childhood development but their lives.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

Nell becomes the tour manage for the band…Manage Me. Lol! It did go through several title changes though and was called Jaden’s Sin for the first 6 months. But when I started thinking of the rest of the series, I knew I wanted to have the titles go together. So there is, Manage Me, See Me, Capture Me….and maybe Marry Me, which will be a novella and I have fully decided on it yet or not.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I really want readers to see that communication is important. It seems that in most romance stories, the couple keeps secrets or hide things from one another and then when those secrets are exposed, things explode. That type of dynamic isn’t going to work out in the long run. Trust is broken and when it is, its very hard to get back no matter how huge the gesture. Jaden and Nell communicate like a real couple would that is trying to make their relationship work, yes there is conflict that tries their relationship but they work together like adults need to build a healthy long lasting relationship.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

There are a few scenes here and there that are based on real life. Nell is a bit like me and Jaden is a mix of different men from my life. Kinda like if you take things from this guy and this one, and this one, you would have the perfect guy. That’s Jaden.

The cough drop scene is from my best friend and her innate need to always give me way too much information.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

A little of both. A couple of the funny scenes are things that a friend told me about. The one where Nell and Jaden are in talking in the kitchen area on the bus, and Jaden can’t find the Snickers because they are in the fridge, is a conversation my fiancé and I’ve had. I like throwing in those real moments because it adds to the flow of the story.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

SC Stephens was the first indie author that I read and her Thoughtless series is still one of my favorites today. Carmen Jenner is another favorite, as well as, Toni Aleo, Mandi Beck, Corinne Michaels, Jordan Marie, Michelle Valentine, Kylie Scott, Tillie Cole, Kendall Grey and Cassandra Clare. There are so many and I know I am forgetting some. Mandi is so amazing and always answers but annoy questions, in trade I send her sexy pictures of men, usually Franggy.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I’m actually just now reading Thoughtful. I know so late!! But it’s so fantastic, I love Kellan and his side is so heart wrenching. Up next is Pucked Up, I love me some hockey and Helena Hunting knows how to do hockey boys right.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Tracy Champion is a newbie, her book is coming out soon. Arie Payton is a paranormal writer that just released her first book, Entrusted, it’s fantastic. Danielle Rose is another paranormal author and wonderful too.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

Currently I am working on See Me. Which is book two in the Toven’s Circus series. If you have read Manage Me then you know who it is about but I don’t want to let that out if you haven’t. I have several other stories that I would like to start but I only let myself work on one at a time, otherwise nothing would get finished. haha

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

My PA Rachel and good friend Sue are both a huge huge help and support to me. They both have help get Manage Me to where it is from being my CP’s to pimping. They always help pull me out of my head when I’m feeling mope.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I love to see writing as a career. I am lucky that I get to be a stay at home mom with my son but it’s a hard industry and you never know where it will take you.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

The editing has been a constant pain in the ass. It’s no wonder the major publishing companies send them through 7-10 different editors before the final comes out because this has been a trial of error. I don’t know if it just bad luck or if my computer has something against me and isn’t saving things properly but it’s been a battle.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Not specifically. My brother is 9 years old than me, and my sister is 8 years younger. We always lived out in the country so I spent a lot of time playing alone developing a very vivid imagination. One day I just started writing them down.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

As its all hand written out and a mess at the moment, I am going to have to say No. Sorry. Its starts out with a copy of Playboy and a treehouse though. Hahaha!

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Yes, Having inspiration, motivation, and the time to work, all land at the same time.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

My favorite changes all the time and the list just grows but the list above are all favorites, as well as authors like JK Rowling, Jenny Lowry, Chelsea Handler, Nora Roberts, Keri Arthur, I really love autobiographies too. As for what strikes me about their work, well obviously these are all different but I love how they all are able to pull you into their worlds. Whether it’s a totally made up world or just another state they have the ability to pull you into their lives.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

Nope, so far I haven’t traveled anywhere but I would really love to do some book signings in 2016. Love N Vegas would be a dream.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I did with the help of my fiancé when I got stuck on something as he is the Photoshop master. Darren Birks is the model and shot both covers also, I didn’t have to do much to them as they were stunning on their own. I did give Darren some new tattoos on his arms and a kiss on his hip for the limited edition cover.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Making choices for where the book will go is hard because you want to please your readers. Sure you write the story how is needs to be but at the same time it’s hard not to worry is the readers are going to hate you for it or not.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Sometimes things happens that are 100% not planned out even thought of until the word are pouring out of your fingers. It must be what possession feels like because it’s that weirdest thing ever.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Try not to let the bad comments in reviews get to you. Its going to happen even when they love the story people will still find something to say. It hurts because you pour your soul into the book but try to use the information as fuel for the next one and more forward.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for reading and loving out books, but thank you for the support you give us long after the last page because your faith in us is what keeps us going.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

I don’t remember the name of the book but it was a Goosebumps book and I was in the 6th grade. I hated reading for many many years as I struggled reading aloud. It wasn’t until we started reading silently in class that I realized that I didn’t have any problems reading in my head.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

I am pretty easy to make laugh. Tell me a dick joke and I’ll laugh. But I don’t cry easily at all. There are a few books out there that have done it though, Ugly Love got me good. However Nicolas Spark’s movies get me every damn time. The Last Ride has me bawling like a baby.

Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?

My Mom-Mom passed a month before I was born. I’ve always been told I am so much like her and there’s this huge mystery about her passing. One that I actually have been researching for a book idea. So I would love love love to meet her and hear her story from her.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why?

Ha!! I’ve never thought of this one.

Best Mom and Authie ever!

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies?

Art…. drawing, painting, coloring, tattooing, sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, movies, and lots of reading.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I’m obsessed with Scream Queens at the moment, and American Horror. I have always been a movie lover, even before books, so I usually will put on a movie as background noise while writing. My go to movies are ones that have a strong soundtrack, where the music is just as important as the characters themselves. Empire Records is my top favorite movie of all times. I can’t say how many times I have seen it now and know every line. Dazed and Confused is another favorite along with Almost Famous.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

Pizza or anything Italian

Pink…Watermelon Pink

90’s Alternative is my favorite but I listen to a bit of everything.

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

I’ve dabbled in a bit of everything. I have done cake decorating and photography. Our son still has a couple years until school starts but I might have gone into some kind of Psychology field.

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?

Name Kristal McKerrington

Age 26 years old

Where are you from

Shetland but consider Glasgow more of my home.

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I have a common law husband called Ian. I am a full time writer and he has heard every single idea that I have ever come up with for a book. He is the person that I turn to the most. We have been together for seven years it will be eight in April.

I was born in Shetland and spent almost half my life in Aberdeen. I grew up a lot there and found the dance scene they had. I preformed for the Shetland Youth Theater for years while dancing. I retired when I was 20 years old.  I’m a certificated horse rider right up to the Dressage certificate.

I found writing in 2008 and became a professional in 2010. I’m signed with Gilbert Literary Agency. I’m published worldwide and an experienced romance wrestling author. A genre that I helped to create with the help of L. Anne Carrington.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I’m moving and finishing my first very deep, never mind long Fantasy novel. This will be the second one this year I finished. I’m working on a Thriller series which I will do under my husbands name. I have got another book in the Marie’s World series in the world. Sometime next year we will see the end of Jason’s story with May. A possible spin off.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I was eight years old and my Aunt was visiting me in the hospital. I had nothing to give her so I stayed up really late to write her a story. I gave it to her the next day. I was writing every since and it was always an outlet for me. Only 5 years ago did it become my life.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

The moment when “A Different Life: Three Lane Highway” came out with XoXo Publishing. I saw that I might have a chance at being a good writer some day.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

The death of my best friend, dance partner Derek. Several other dancers who were very ill but still choose to perform. I wanted their dance characters to be remembered forever and to also have the ending they deserved.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

Some people say that I do. That I liked to divide my POV’s into chapters or books. I would say that is true. Some people believe that my writing style is complicated and detailed. Something else I would agree. I could never tell you what my style is because I just write what is inside my head.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

My titles come to me when I’m writing or sometimes I start with the title. A line that ends up being the title will just pop into my head while I’m doing something or watching something. The next thing I know I’m in full writers mode breaking down the book so I can write it later.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I think there is always something that you can take away from my work and I hope that your left thinking or feeling an emotion. Those are the two things to which I believe are what motivate the readers and allows them to escape to another world. To want to buy more books and read what the author’s writing. For them another world is being built by our imaginations.

Fiona:
How much of the book is realistic?

I try to make my books as realistic as possible but that is hard sometimes. I just allow my characters to react the way that they do. I don’t try to force them to think the way other people would.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Yeah I suppose you could say yes to both of those. I have said in other interviews that I continued on the story of my dancing friends in Marie’s World. I have written down stories that I plan to do in the future based on me wanting to play out events to their end rather have them cut off in the middle.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

I think we all mentor each other. For me at the beginning of my career I was learning a lot from Catherine Cookson, Celia Rees before moving onto Rachel Caine and Richelle Maid. Both amazing authors. I would say I look up to Rachel Caine for she took her idea that wasn’t an in the box idea and she made it into something big.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

2 Books Richelle Maid’s Vampire Academy and Rachel Caine’s Morganville Series.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Of course there is Megan Duncan who became a good friend. Margaret Daley who’s a wonderful Christian author. Paula Mowery. Can’t go wrong with any of those names.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I will be having to keep my lips tight on that one as we don’t know what is going to happen. This is the publishing industry and everything chances at a drop of a hat.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

Gilbert Literary Agency and of course Solstice Publishing

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I do and I hope to be doing it until I’m well into my nineties and someone is having to type the books up for me.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Of no, not at all. I do what I feel is right with the characters, the storylines and the moves I make.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

The War: Dragon is going to be a lot like Harry Potter meets the Vampire Academy. There’s love, action, tension, death, a constant need to do what is right for friends, family. How no matter what sometimes your friends are your family.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Ending a series to know that the characters I have been with for so long are done its hard. Its like grieving a friend. I even dress in black for the day and wear a pair of cowboy boots. Its something I don’t think will ever be easy for me.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Rachel Caine I would have to say. Her details, her ability to write a story that just grabs you by the guts and holds you to the last page. When you get to the last page you just can’t help wanting more. She is a true series author that I can see a lot of people falling in love with. She will be a author that goes down in the history books for her work in Fantasy and also for being a down to earth person who has offered the publishing world so much. She still has so much more to give.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

I did last year. I did a book tour around England and Scotland which was fun. I would love to do one in the US. Start maybe in New York then head across to LA. That would certainly be my dream. I would say more so as I made sure that Dragon from the book “The War” goes to LA. Also in “Marie’s World” she goes to LA where she has a dance studio that she runs with her sister Amber.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Amanda Struz. Check out her at http://www.coversbystruza.com/

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Gosh I have 9 books out so its so hard for me to say. Most of the time its high emotional situations that I need to do or wrestling scenes. I really am not good at those but I’m learning. I would say those are the two off the top of my head that I’m bad at. But in writing we are learning every day and all the time.  I’m not to proud to admit that I don’t everything and I want to learn.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

From Dragon in The War I learned about trusting and how important true friendship is.

Calling You Home taught me about love being the hardest yet the most amazing thing in the world.

Marie taught me that in her book no matter how bad you are beaten down that you have to get up and fight. That is a message that is in most of my books.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Keep learning, go to editors and learn from them. Work with people in the industry not college or Uni as they don’t have any idea how different publishing is. What they say is right is most of the time wrong in the book world.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I want fellow Arthritic sufferers to be able to see that one of us made something amazing out of their lives. I want them to relate to me not just because of what I overcome or what I fight against. But to know that there is a author who writes books and will listen to every single one of them. Will talk to every single one of them and always has time for them.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Catherine Cookson’s House of Women.

Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?

I have a world out there of people that I want to meet. I want to meet every single one of my readers. Shake their hands and give them hug. Those are the superstars to me. Those are the ones that I have the biggest desire to meet.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

Kristal was a wife, (hopefully) a mother, author and a friend to all.

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

I’m a gamer so I do that a lot, play board games with my husband and read. I’m hardly ever away from the writing world for to long. I am passionate about wrestling though, I have to say its my hobbies.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Gosh I’m into a bit of everything from Castle, NCIS, Originals, Vampire Diaries, Good Wife, Total Diva’s, Monday Night Raw those are just to name a few.

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

I would have been a dancer, actress or nurse. Those were the only fields I studied or maybe on the British Paralympics team.

Here is my interview with Glen R Stansfield

Name: Glen R Stansfield

Age: 58

Where are you from: Lancashire, UK.

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

Brought up in the Lancashire Pennines in the nineteen sixties. An era when children used their imagination to play. I left school at the age of sixteen to pursue a career in aviation as an engineer, which I still do today. I have three grown up children from my first marriage and now live in Bahrain with my second wife, who has three grown up children of her own.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I’ve just reached a deal with one of the largest bookshops in Bahrain to stock my paperback version of Fishing for Stones. I’m working on my second novel, Harry

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I suppose that started at junior school when we did ‘composition.’ After that it wasn’t until 5 or 6 years ago I returned to writing

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I sold my first book, though I still sometimes think someone will point at me and shout ‘fraud!’

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

When I was working in Aberdeenshire, it struck me how little security there was in those days, and how easy it would be to steal a helicopter, assuming you could fly one of course.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I think anyone who is serious about writing has their own style. What you see on the page is me. It isn’t something that is done consciously, it just happens

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

In a way the title gives a clue to the story. The ‘stones’ are diamonds, ‘Fishing’ in this case has a double meaning. Hence Fishing for Stones

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Crime sometimes pays? No, not really. I just want people to enjoy a story. I don’t think I take life seriously enough to put hidden meanings into my work

Fiona:
How much of the book is realistic?

I spend a lot of time on research, checking facts, looking at places, working out routes etc. I want people with personal knowledge of a place or event to think that possibly my story could be real. A lot of the events in my books are real, as are a lot of the places and people. The main characters and events though are fictitious.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

I think most writers will inject a little of somebody they know into their stories. My characters in Fishing for Stones are a composite of fictitious and real people. For Harry, things are a little different. As far as I know I’m not acquainted with any serial killers

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

It was a book by Robert Townsend, then CEO of Avis Rent-a-Car, Up the Organization. Later in life when I was in supervisory and management positions I remembered his philosophy on how to deal with people. I’ve tried to live up to that both in and out of the workplace.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?
This is going to sound sad, but I’m currently reading a guide to crime scene investigation as part of my research for Harry.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Dietmar Wehr. I’m a huge fan of Sci-fi and I was really taken by the Synchronicity Wars. I think the big explosion in self-publishing has brought a wave of talent that otherwise wouldn’t be seen. On the other hand we are also in danger of being buried under a deluge of hastily written and poorly edited works.

Fiona: What are your current projects?
Harry, is my work in progress. There are some germs of ideas for further works kicking around in the back of my mind

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

Seumas Gallacher has been a great source of encouragement. Whenever I feel like giving up, a chat with Seumas rekindles my interest

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Not as a full time career, yet. Maybe a second career, after retirement

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Probably. I think I will never be satisfied and always looking for ways to improve something. There comes a point though where you have to stop…and publish

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Yes, my headmaster at junior school, Marcus Dearden, encouraged many of us to write stories

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

It is still very much a work in progress. The story centres around a former special forces soldier who became slightly unhinged during the first Gulf war. The death of a friend triggers his suppressed desire to kill, and he sets about ridding the streets of London of petty criminals and villains.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Focus. I’m easily distracted from the task in hand. I will start to research something about strangulation, and find myself looking at something entirely unrelated that attracted my eye

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Without doubt, Terry Pratchett. His books have many facets that on the first read can be easy to miss. Not only are they humorous, but they also contain many social comments.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

Sadly no. I use Google Earth and Google Street to research my locations. Though if I am in the area I will check a particular aspect for myself. I was recently in London and checked several of the locations mentioned in Harry. It was a bit of a problem for Fishing for Stones, as it is set in 1990. Fortunately, many of the locations for that I did have personal knowledge of, though the scenes in Angola and Antigua had a lot of research done for them, including scouring home movies found on YouTube

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I did. I’m a bit of a control freak and want to handle all aspects of my books

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Working out the timing for the main event. I spent weeks trying to figure out a way that could be done

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

It is both mentally and physically draining, but just the one comment from a reader about how they enjoyed it makes it all worthwhile

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Keep at it and don’t be afraid of taking risks

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you. Without readers I only have manuscripts, not books

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Not specifically but Dr Seuss figures high on the list, as do the Paddington Bear books

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

I find humour in all sorts of situations, even those that are meant to be serious. Human stories, good or bad make me cry. I can be very emotional

Fiona: Is there one person past or present you would meet and why?

I always wanted to meet Nelson Mandela. Even after all the hatred and hostility, he could still inspire a nation, and the world

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

Oi. Put me back. I haven’t finished yet

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

Motorcycling. Sadly I don’t ride in Bahrain, here it is considered a form of suicide. When back in the UK I ride as much as I can. I read a lot, though not as much as I used to.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Anything with a high body count in it. Criminal and detective dramas such as Silk and Lewis. I love Martin Clunes as Doc Martin. Sci-fi films such as Star Wars definitely do it for me, but I will watch pretty much anything that is well written and well acted. Certain combinations of actors will also draw me to a film, Clooney/Pitt, Sandler/Barrymore

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

Vietnamese cooking. Red and Blue. Rock, blues, classical

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

Police officer. I did that part time for a few years, or maybe a barrister.

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?

Name Mark McQuillen

Age 57 * *Birthday Jan 3rd. Yes I was doomed to be a fantasy author. It’s the same day as Tolkiens.

Where are you from Birthplace Malestrom AFB, Great Falls, MT.  Currently  Pueblo, Co.

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

High School Grad, Veteran. Life long AF brat!

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

Well just got finished writing Valkyrie 2: Darkness Rising. Coming soon to a Kindle or Nook near you 12/12/15, maybe sooner if I can get the editing done. Valkyrie 1: Darkness Awaits now on Amazon.com .

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

Well I have been writing on Fan role playing sites. Especially the Tolkien ones and took a rather obscure character Erestor and wrote an entire history for him from the First Age of Middle Earth all the way through LOTR and beyond. Why I have my own stories to tell from deep in the recesses of my dark mind. Why else?

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I wrote the original Mist on a Rpg website and went up against the Biggest BAD Dude and stood toe to toe with him for 16 pages. And the same story got voted best of the year I was hooked.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

I’d been kicking the Valkyrie book idea around from the top of my head for a couple of years but in June I was kicking around the house bored one day and off we went. I started on Jun 15th and was done on Aug 15th 48,250 words in 90 days.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

No, not really. I write in spurts of upto 10 pages at a time.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

Just came to me one day.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes, it’s all summed up this quote for book 1: “Be careful of what you say and do in life, you never know who’s watching.” Is just that, there are things that are watching. We might want to take care what we do.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

Actually 50%, I mention real historical events. Plus all of the weapons in the story existed at one time.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life

Gils flashbacks to Yugoslavia are based on experience of friends that were there. The scene where Gil sees Mist for the first time is based on something that actually. happened to my Grandfather in WWII.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

JRR Tolkien the Lord of the Rings. I was in fifth grade when Mr. Roberts, read the Hobbit and the trilogy  aloud in English class. I was hooked.

Raven Williams, Realm Jumper Chronicles

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Jenna Baxter.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I just started writing Valkyries 3 yesterday.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

All of the folks on Facebook, I also got the help from other indy authors.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Well since I’m disabled what else do I have to do?

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve written stories as long as I can remember.  My mother was a writer, I learned from her.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

From Valkyries 3

Chapter 1: Of darkness and light

Loki

Loki worked the bellows as he watched the ancient Dwarven smith work with a pair of tongs to remove a crucible from the forge.

When he arrived a week ago Alberech had been glad to help. Malice had made an enemy of him too. In doing so she had made a big mistake.

When he had told the smith what he wanted his oldest allie set to work immediately making Loki’s instrument of vengeance.

When the God of Treachery had tried to pay the Dwarf, Alberech told him to keep his money.

Loki’s thoughts were interrupted by the ancient dwarf gravelly whisper.

“Move swiftly Asgardian, cast your spell into the crucible before the metal cools.”

Loki walked over as he concentrated, a stream of emerald energy left the Aesirs left hand bathing the mold with green fire. When the flow stopped the glow was absorbed by the molten gold making the magic part of the metal.

Alberech  used the tongs to place the crucible in the forge one last time before he poured the liquid into a mold he had on the workbench.

They had several hours ahead of them before the Dwarf could remove the mold. Alberech led him to a table with a couple of chairs were mead waited.

“I thought you and the shewolves of Odin hated each other. You surprised me with the request Loki. Since when did you decide to help  the Valkyries? You’re not known for doing anything without a price or is this just a part of a larger scheme?”

“The less you know the better old friend.” Loki replied. Let’s just say that my relationship with the Riders has changed since the arrival of the Son of the Valkyries.”

The elderly dwarf nodded, he rarely left the forge but he had heard the rumors about the Riders prophecy coming true.

“A bunch of superstitious drivel if you ask me or has Sif wrapped you around her finger again?”

The God of Treachery eyes narrowed as his irises went black with anger.

“Choose your next words with care Dwarf. No one influences  me.

“Do your work and keep silent or your life is forfeit. Let’s just say that myself and the Valkyries goals coincide for the moment.”

Alberech shied back at the gods words. What the Dark God’s motives where did not bode well for Asgard.

Loki sipped his mead as he calmed down, just the mention of Sifs name still brought out feelings that he thought he had suppressed. When they were young he loved the Goddess from afar. His half brother Thor was the one she had lusted after.

Now she has married Gil Swanson, well good luck keeping her. He thought, life was just so unfair.

“So what’s this Son of the Valkyries like, do I have anything to be  concerned about?” Alberech asked he had his own run in’s with the Riders.

“He’s a man of the world, respecful, intelligent and driven as all of the Valkyries are. He’ll leave you alone as long as you don’t provoke him.”

The dwarf had no intention of doing something that would attract his attention. Loki obviously had a grudging admiration for the male Valkyrie. That in itself was a reason to keep an eye on him. The whole idea of a male Rider was going to take some time to get used to.

Zander

The Dark Queens command still echoed in his head as he stormed though Ghost Mountain. He used a fist, a boot or the whip to get the rest of his clan moving. The whip wined as it cut through the air. As he flicked his wrist the bull whip cracked like thunder

“Move you slugs, form up in the courtyard. We have a Valkyrie to kill.”

It took the Warleader an hour to get everyone together. Once outside he looked over his fellow goblins with disdain. In the back stood seven black figures that seemed to absorb the light around them.  Nightflyers were useful tools as long as you never turned your back on them.

Zander approached their leader with caution, he had no intention of ending up as a snack. Skar wasn’t known for his gentleness. When he got close the creature opened his eyes that looked the entrance to the abyss.

“Find the accursed male Valkyrie, Malice commands his death!” Zander barked. In response to the goblin chiefs order the leader chucked, it sounded like the grating of metal on metal.

“Feeling brave today worm?” Skar asked as he looked down his nose at the goblin.

“Hela has already given us our orders, they don’t include taking orders from you. Get your rabble moving, time is short.”

Wisely Zander sniff as he moves off, now wasn’t time to die. His dream was about to come true the greatest Goblin Warlord in the history of Asgard.

Or so he thought when he looked out over a sea of goblins that blackened the ground

Then looked down to see the steel beasts on what the called tracks “Panzers.”

He breathed in then let out a roar, “Death to the Valkyries!”

“DEATH TO THE VALKYRIES!” His host replied, their roar making the heavens shake.

Gil, Mist, Sif, and Shadow.

As Gil recovered from his wound the newest of the Valkyries go to know more about his Valkyrie powers and his oldest friend. The remark about Machiavelli opening a new set of memories from his childhood. Mist telling him stories of her life. As the two of them lay there she now told him of his wives adventures in Victorian London.

‘Victorian London. As in Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes, Victorian London.’  Gil said with humor in his mindvoice. He could see the two of them prowling through the gas lit streets.

Hey why not, everything else has been there even Dr.Who. He thought as his wife spoke of meeting Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He could see Holmes famous creator using Mist as the inspiration for Sherlock’s perfect woman.

‘Yes. It’s one of Sif and my personal favorite eras in human history. It was all so decadently civilized.’

Gils imagination went into overdrive as she almost purred the word decadently. He looked around at the huge four poster bed they currently occupied.

‘Exactly, where did you think I got the idea to tell the carpenters?’ Mist breathed into his ear as she licked the tip.

How many stories of Victorian Erotica did those two inspire?  Gil thought as his blood heated. Giving his skin a rather rosey hue, attracting his wife’s attention. Mists head lowered  to his neck as she snickered.

‘Stories of Victorian Erotica, eh. At least one or two, I think and a painting.’

Name  Misha Elliott

Age 42

Where are you from Alabama

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I live in Alabama with my husband,Alan, teenage son, two mini schnauzers and a rescued calico cat.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I have a Christmas novella ~ All I Want for Christmas that is part of an anthology that benefits a children’s hospital.  It releases on November 2nd.  Right now for less than a dollar you can get 14 great stories and help a great cause. Here’s a link if you want to check it out. http://bit.ly/CITC-US

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I have always written poetry and short stories.  It wasn’t until we had experienced some tragic losses in our family that I got back into it and it to be therapeutic. My husband and friends encouraged me to share them with others.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When my editor told me that I am a writer.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

A group of friends having a discussion over too much wine.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I wouldn’t say I have a style. This year I’m working on different genres and techniques.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I usually make a list of potential names and have Alan pick the one he likes.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

In Saving Leah I want people to understand that there is more to domestic violence than the obvious physical abuse. Also for people to understand that it isn’t that a person wants to be in that situation, sometimes they are so damaged that they don’t see a way out.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I think that all of my books are realistic.  They are fictional, but I put in elements of real things in each one.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Yes, there is a part of me, or someone I know in every book.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

I love romances Nora Roberts is at the top of my list, then I’d have to add Kristen Proby, Colleen Hoover, Tara Sivec, Tina Reber, Michelle Leighton to name a few.  Each of them have stories that have really touched me.

There are several bloggers and authors who lend their support.  I am very grateful for them.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I have regular 9-5 job, but writing is something I see myself doing through retirement.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

It’s funny you should ask that.  I had one idea for Viral then completely changed it so I hope this is going to be a read that catches your attention.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Viral Here’s a sneak peek:

“Wicked”

“Heartless Bitch.”

I deserve to be hated and detested after all. I tried so hard to be good, but the truth is that it just didn’t work out for me.  With the push of a button I unleashed a storm of catastrophic levels.

Then I was sorry

I couldn’t stop it.

It was uncontrollable

It was all my fault. After all some things can’t be unseen or undone.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Organizing my thoughts as they all come out at once.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Kristen Proby’s characters are all relatable.  I love that bond that the female characters have with each other.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

For research, and book signings.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Shari Ryan, and Hang Le have designed some for me so far.

Since I can remember.  I started writing because that was my way of sharing my feelings.  Now,  it is to inspire,  encourage,  and give hope.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer? In my early 30s when I started writing

Again. I’d actually stopped and forgot that I’d even wrote as a child.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
Life. I had journaled a lot of thoughts,  inspirational quotes, and poetry through the past ten years, so that’s where the title of my first book came from.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?
I like to start with introduction to the story and build it ti capture my audience, then end it with a shocking twist.  As for my poetry, I just allow it to flow.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
Usually it’s inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Yes, redemption.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

All of it

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
A little bit of both

The bible,  Catcher in the Rye by J.D  Salinger, If You Think You Can by T.J. Hoisington, just to name a few

Too many to list.  I have a couple of high school classmates that are published authors as well.  Rossolyn Lewis and Venus Ashbury.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Eventually

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Not really. I just remember as a child,  sitting for hours to myself writing poetry til my legs were numb.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Sure!

” Some people will attempt to place you in bondage over bad choices, but we all make mistakes but the key thing to that is to learn and grow from them . Divorce is not the unpardonable sin so don’t allow people to drive you to self condemnation.  Many others wish that they would have bailed instead of stayed.  Marriage is great when two can work together, but when the tug of war begans there is no winner.  I love the sanctity of marriage and should it present itself to me again, I plan to live it happily and wiser.

You can’t piece together a puzzle that has already been dismantled by choice.

New beginnings happen and people move on.  Your desires are not the other people’s desires. Let them be happy with who and what they choose.

If you don’t stand together in prayer and agreement as a couple and family , you will fall with the rest.

Here is my interview with Krystal Fahl

30 Friday Oct 2015

Posted by fionamcvie1964 in Uncategorized

Name Krystal Fahl (Pen name is KL Donn)

Age 28…. Soon to be 29… sigh 30 is too close!

Where are you from Calgary, AB, Canada, but I live Edmonton now J

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

Hmmm I’m not very good at talking about me… But I’m a stay at home mom of 4 kids, been with my amazing hubby since I was 17 and now I’m living my dream as an author! Which is still pretty unbelievable!

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I’m releasing my 2nd book, Emily’s Protectors, in just a couple weeks on Nov 12th!

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

Oooo that’s a toughy! I started writing short stories in grade 6, mostly for school assignments and stuff, but then I fell in love with it, and growing up I wrote many small things. Then a yr and a half ago, I was searching for book, but nothing was appealing to me so I started to write a book that I would like to read, and well things went from there!

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Honestly? I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet! Yes I’ve published, I have everything saying I’m an author, but my brain is still catching up from the excitement!

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

Life! I suppose. I needed a book to read, and so I wrote what I love, (Menage), and I fell in love with it!

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I have no idea! :::snicker::: That’s bad right?

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I had the title’s of my books before I even started writing them! I don’t know why, I just did. These girls, my girls, have a story to tell and I think they deserve to have their names shouted from the roof tops!

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes! Never EVER give up on life or love or following your dreams!

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

In Keeley’s Fight, (my first book) a good chunk of it. A lot is fiction. But the emotion, some of the events. That’s all me.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

A bit of both.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

A mentor? Lordy Jordan Marie! Her compassion as a human being is humbling, her writing is amazing, and she is someone I am blessed to call my friend!!

A book that has influenced my life I would have to say Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt, it’s a memoir about a young Irish man and the struggles of growing up in Ireland in the early 1900’s. A book that makes you thankful for what you have and to appreciate every day you wake up!

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I am reading 3 actually, I’m bouncing between each of them, weird I know.

They are Maverick by L Wilder, Darkest Before Dawn by Maya Banks and Ropped In by LP Dover. They’re all fantastic!

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

So many! Baylee Rose, Lexi Whitlow, DD Wyatt, Alex Abbott, gosh I’m sure there’s more but I’m having a brain freeze!

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I am Currently writing my third book in my Protectors Series, Kennedy’s Redemption. But that book has a character in that has demanded her own series soon, so I’ve got more ideas brewing!

I am also starting a project with my daughter Savannah, she’s 10 and has requested I make write a children’s book. I have yet to announce this publicly, so you’re getting the news first! It will be a series of short books called the Savannah Series… Basically it’s going to be about my daughter learning to do things, IE: Savannah learns to do laundry, Savannah learns to cook.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

Dessure Hutchins. She’s more than just a friend, more than family, an entire country divides us and yet she’s there. Always!

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I do! It takes more work to create a book then I ever had to when I had a real workplace job.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Yes and no. I would tell the same story, but I would add more detail.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Grade school! I had a teacher that pushed us past our limits when writing and I excelled!

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I would love too! This is from Emily’s Protectors releasing Nov 12th! Please know this is very unedited!

Letting out a rough breath he told them, “That was Officer Rivera. She finally heard back from the police station in Lincoln and they told her that it was all in your fucking head. There was no evidence of anyone stalking you. Fucking useless bunch of tits.” He expressed, frustration etched in every line of his handsome face.

“Oh.” She said feeling almost defeated walking away from them and going to the bathroom to start cleaning up.

“Emily.” Cooper barked in such a stern voice her body froze mid-step at his command. “Get your sweet ass back here.”

Torn between wanting to listen and wanting to just think about her options, she didn’t move fast enough for him before he threatened, “Baby girl you have three seconds before I put you over my knee.”

Affronted at his threat she turned around glaring, “You wouldn’t dare!” She challenged.

Hunching his shoulders forward menacingly, he whispered, “Try me.” With a sexy ass smirk on his face and eyes alight with lust, humor and dark promises that he would indeed do it.

Walking towards them slowly, hands wringing in front of her, Emily stopped a foot away. Hearing duel growls come from them she shuffled forward a little more. Startled when they both reached a hand out intertwining their hands in her hair at the back of her head they pulled her forward until her chest met theirs.

Gulping, she looked up. And up some more.

“What’s happening in that head of yours woman? Shake any bullshit out right now that has you thinking you can pull away, not after that amazing show you just gave us.” Cooper told her sternly.

Looking at him sharply she thought about her reply carefully. “I… I just needed to think. This is overwhelming and I’m pissed off and scared and fuck!” She cursed at the sharp tug of her hair.

“Watch. Your. Mouth. Last fucking warning.” Dane growled menacingly at her.

“You just swore.” She pointed out helpfully, realizing too late she just sealed her fate. Fuck it all Emily, keep your damn mouth shut! She scolded herself at the look on their faces.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Describing a room with accuracy! Holy crap sticks is that hard! I can see it in my mind but writing it down is hard!

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I have a couple… TM Frazier, her books are so dark and alluring. They rip any and every emotion right from your heart!

Jenika Snow, I can read any over her books over and over. She writes in many sub-genres and every one is a hit for me! She stole many genre cherries from me, she was my Sci-fi author, my first MC author. I just love everything she writes.

Maya Banks, all of her books are so in depth and real, and when I read her I feel like I am the heroine of whatever book I’m reading.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

You mean other than to actually write? Lol No I don’t, not yet. I may in the future.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Tammie Smith from Renegade Covers

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The first kiss. It’s harder than sex!
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Not everything is as it seems.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Write what you know, what you love. If you would read it, chances are someone else would too (Jordan Abbott told me that).

Use an editor! Find some really good beta readers

Trust your instincts!

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you! For taking a chance on me, and any other indie authors you’ve discovered! Your kind words will always amaze me!

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Oh gosh, Dr. Seuss? I’ve been reading forever!

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

A good book, a great movie, my children! (They each do both lol)

Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?

Martin Luther King Jr. Because…. I have a dream… Doesn’t everyone? I think that speech has influenced many a person, and I will always remember it when I feel self-doubt about anything in my life.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

Hmmm I haven’t thought that far ahead, but….

Mother, Wife, Daughter, Infinite dreamer… Seems appropriate.

Here is my interview with Kim Smith

Name Kim Smith

Age *smile* older than dirt

Where are you from Mid South region of the US

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I am the author of Love Inn, The Last Dragyn Slayer, and An Unexpected Performance. I host the podcast, Writer Groupie found on my website.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I recently released The Dread Room, a Warped Mind Collection. Just for Halloween reading!

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing in grade school as most everyone does. I made it into a profession in the early 2000s because I couldn’t make any more excuses not to.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I wrote The End on my first fantasy book. It has never been published, but I have never stopped writing.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

I didn’t like how the Lord of the Rings ended. I wanted it to go on and on, so I wrote what came next.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I think so. I didn’t understand about voice in the early days, but now, I think most anyone would recognize my writing.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I love titles. I always keep what strikes me the most. I did get help with the title of An Unexpected Performance from my son. He is very talented in art and when he gave me the title, it stuck, but mostly, I come up with my own titles. Love Inn, for example, is about a bed and breakfast where a lonely widower finds love again.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Usually. The Last Dragyn Slayer is all about greed. I wrote it to fit into a contest about the seven deadly sins.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I draw on my life experiences so there is a note of realism in EVERYTHING I write, even fantasy.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Usually something from my own life, but sometimes, it may be something that I heard from someone else. You never know when someone else’s story will wiggle into your thoughts.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

Every book I read influences me in some way. Now that I pay attention to how a writer crafts his or her story, it REALLY does.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

The Parting by Beverly Lewis. My first Amish romance!

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I love everything by Kristi Rose, a new and upcoming romance author. Her Second Chances series is great.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

Currently, working on a YA romance called Puppy Love, and a non-fic project that is so new I can’t even talk about it! And finishing up edits on the first book in my mystery series.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

Hmm…. That’s hard. All of my publishers went out of business…

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Yes. It is my retirement plan.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Yes, I would make it longer.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I have always loved writing stories. It’s ingrained in my DNA.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

This is from Puppy Love Brandon Durham stood looking at her with his hands on his hips, and she suddenly wondered when he became such a hottie. He was the beast on the bus. The one who’d recently done a drum roll on her head with his pencil.

The soft winter sunlight fell across his hair turning the average brown into a mass of auburn and blond. And when did he get so tall? He stood next to her while she worked with the sign, and when they stood together to observe it, she’d felt like a midget.

And he was actually being nice to her. What had happened to the mean boy she’d just watched stroll down the bus aisle?

“Yeah, you could come along if you want to,” she told him, grabbing the duct tape roll. They gave the sign one last glance and started down the street. He carried the signs she’d made, and she was amazed once again at his transformation from the hellion on the bus to this nice, polite guy.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Time. I need time to write and never have enough.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Karen White – she has a voice that always strikes a chord every book.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

No. But would love to do more just to enlarge my horizons.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I designed all my own covers with the exception of Dance with Me

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Knowing when to write The End. I could go on and on.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I always learn something new about the human experience with every book I write.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

My best advice is for you to READ. Please, please read. Read on your phone, your computer, and in paper. Read a lot. You will be such a better writer for having done so!

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you so much for being my fan and follower all this time. You are wonderful.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Yes. It was a silly story about a boy, a girl, and a dog. Haha. Sounds like my current work in progress!

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

A well written story can evoke either emotion in me.

Fiona: Is there one person past or present you would meet and why?

I would like to meet with J.R.R. Tolkien just to tell him I wrote the REAL ending to The Lord of the Rings.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why?

My name, my birthdate, my day of death, and Philippians 4:6 – because it has gotten me through a lot of trials.

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies?

I am an avid photographer/videographer and love to design anything graphics related.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Right now, I am stuck on episodes of Empire, and binge watching Dr. Who.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

I love pizza, purple, and popular hits.

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

I would love to be an entertainment journalist. I already podcast interviews with authors, and it would be fun to do likewise with celebs.

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it? Yes, it is http://www.kimsmithauthor.com
