Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Good morning, Fiona.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
I’m Angelique Migliore, and a lady never reveals her age.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I was born and raised in the Florida Panhandle.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I grew up the only sister in a sea of brothers, and my childhood could not have been any more rough and tumble. I was the best tree-climber of all of them. If memory serves, that might have been an escape mechanism.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston.
I also have a Master’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Sharing a meal is the quickest route to Peace. I can help with both of those.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
I am thrilled to announce that “One Night in Portland” is currently available for pre-order on all major ebook outlets, and it will be publish on August 21, 2019 from Tirgearr Publishing. It is #37 in the City Nights series. (I might have already written my second and plotted my third novella for this series, also. Yes, theses novellas are that much fun to write.)
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I have always been a creative soul and wrote much of my childhood. I decided to focus my creativity on writing about six years ago when I started my first book.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When my cheeks returned to their normal colorafter receiving my first negative critique, I realized that I wasn’t discouraged. I was actually encouraged to do better. In that moment, I knew I was serious about this writing stuff.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
The first book I wrote is number one in a Mythological Fantasy trilogy. My research and studies of World Religions inspired it.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
My titles usually generate themselves organically from the themes of my books.
“One Night in Portland” is pre-titled because it #37 in a very fun series call the “City Nights” series.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
If I have a specific writing style, I have no idea what it is. I’ll let my future fans fill in that blank.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The proposal scene at the beginning of “One Night in Portland” was a bad date of mine. I have decided to immortalize all of my bad date experiences.
Stay tuned…
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
I have travelled quite a bit in my life. I do use those experiences. All of the cities that I intend to write for the “City Nights” series, I have lived in and loved.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Tirgearr Publishing takes care of the covers for those books.
(A nice lady in Italy?)
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
From “One Night in Portland” the message would be to push the boundaries you put on yourself. Step out of yourcomfort zone, and see what’s on the other side.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
I’m not sure how to categorize a “new author,” but I offer to Beta read quite a bit, and I’m excited for many of the books I’ve read to hit the streets, so to speak.
I have several favoritewriters from different time periods of my life and for my writing.
I love many classics in several genres, especially the earlier science fiction and dystopian stories.
The American historical novels of Beverly Jenkins are eye-opening and necessary. Her research is extensive.
The bold honesty of Alyssa Cole is jaw-dropping; the way she weaves it with humor is magical.
Anne Rice will always be a trailblazer in my eyes.
Margaret Atwood is a borderline prophetess.
I could go on…
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
Judith Couchman, Author,
Pikes Peak Writers,
Romance Writers of America,
Mid-America Romance Authors, a chapter of RWA,
and several librarian friends.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
100% yes
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Yes, but as writers we have to send them off into the world at some point; otherwise, we’ll never finish perfecting them.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
More than I could list, but I probably learned even more from my editor and the editing process.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Not an actor, but I see J.J. Watt (Houston Texans) playing Finn, and a younger Margaret Cho playing Lee-Lee from “One Night in Portland.”
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Everyone’s path is different. Find the path that works for you.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
Hold on! There’s a tonne more fun and adventure coming your way.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I’m listening to Nalini Singh’s “Rock Hard” and reading Michelle Obama’s “Becoming.”
Not at the same time.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
I started reading at four years old, so I don’t remember the first one I read.
But, my mother bought me “There’s a Monster at the End of This Book!” which is a Sesame Street book featuring Grover. If I made her read it to me once, I made her read it to me a gazillion times. I still love it.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Lots. I’m a big softie, but don’t tell anyone.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I never made it to a Prince concert. I would ask him to sing a song for me.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I cook and bake a lot. I do various crafts.
I love to belly dance, although I don’t do it nearly enough.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I’m eagerly awaiting Season 2 of “Altered Carbon,” Season 5 of “The Magicians,” Season 4 of “The Good Place,” and Season 3 of “The Orville.”
Right now, “Into the Badlands” has my full attention.
(For the love of all that is holy, someone please tell me they got re-funded for a fourth season!)
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
Foods: Korean, Middle-Eastern, or Indian
Color: Purple. Always purple.
Music: All.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
Cry big, ugly tears and read way more than I have time to read now.
Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?
Holding my family close and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
I’m not ready to answer that one just yet, Fiona.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
