Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

Hello, all! E. Raye Turonek here, master weaver of mystery suspense thrillers and broadcaster of astrology. I turned 40 last November.

Fiona: Where are you from?

I’m from Detroit, Michigan

Fiona: A little about your self (ie,  your education, family life, etc.).

I’m a married, mother of five children ranging from 17years to 6years of age. I was born in Detroit, but moved back and forth from Michigan to Alabama throughout my teenage years. After leaving the University of South Alabama to return to Michigan, I’ve been here ever since. Currently I reside in a small town in mid Michigan with my family. Working at the post office keeps me busy on a daily basis, however my true passion is writing mystery suspense thrillers and studying astrology.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

2019 was a busy year. I acquired an agent, released two full length novels, and started my astrology YouTube channel, Enchantress Press Astrology.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

Although English has always been my favorite subject, it was intense dreams that pushed me to start writing them down.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I considered myself a writer once I published my first 51,000 word novel in 2016.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

Intense dreams inspired me to write my first book. The characters were haunting my thoughts.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I try to pick a title that fits the material.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

I usually write in 3rd person. As far as content goes, sometimes I do outlines, other times I write in sections – having no order whatsoever. It all depends on how the ideas or dreams come to me.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

All of the Compelled To Murder Series is fiction. The Rural Route 8 series, which I’m currently working on has some basis in reality. Most of the story takes place in Clarkston, Michigan where I work at the Post Office so some of the series is factual.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

Before the process, definitely. I like to travel to see other places, so that I can come up with fresh ideas. I prefer to see things for myself, which helps me to accurately describe the scene.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I drew out the cover for the original Compelled To Murder, before having a cover artist bring it to life. My other covers, Compelled To Murder full length and Compelled To Murder II – Steven’s Lineage were done by Author Navi Robins.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I write purely to entertain. Of course, I include tidbits of facts, as well. I like for the reader to be entertained, while learning a little.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

I don’t really have a favorite author. As far as the authors in my community go, I’m impressed with the writing craft of  Cate McCoy, MarZe Scott and Kaylynn Hunt.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

EyeCU Reading Social Network has been very supportive. It’s definitely my favorite book club.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Definitely! I plan to continue to write and practice astrology. I’d like to eventually make major motion pictures.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, I wouldn’t.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Yes, indeed. My recently completed manuscript, Rural Route 8, has not been published yet. However it starts in Kuwait before transitioning to Michigan, so I learned plenty about the military, along with the war in Iraq (after 911).

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

This is an easy one. I can see it clearly. Compelled To Murder’s lead character would be played by Gerard Butler.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

  1. Don’t give up on your dreams because of opposition. If it was easy, everyone would do it.
  2. Write a little everyday to hone your craft.
  3. Read much, and travel outside of your city, state, and/or country.

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Thank you for being a part of my journey, while allowing me to be a part of yours.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I’m currently reading Gemini Rising by MarZe Scott.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Probably Green Eggs and Ham… lol. If you are speaking of significance, The Crucible. It’s my favorite.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Disney movies make me laugh and cry. It never fails…

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

I’d love to meet Quentin Tarantino. He’s brilliant. I love his work.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

I love astrology, which I happen to practice, study and broadcast.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I don’t really watch television but my husband does. When I halfway watch with him it’s either Live PD or something on the Discovery channel.

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

My favorite colors are black and yellow. I’m a pescatarian, so I don’t eat meat however I love fish, and crab. As far as music goes I’m pretty eclectic. My favorite song would have to be Hotel California by the Eagles or Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I love music that tells a story.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

I would continue to study and broadcast astrology on YouTube.

Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?

With my husband and children.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

A Beacon To The Masses
