Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Hey and thanks for having me here. My name is Ralph M Edgerson Jr and I’m 46.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I was born and raised in New Orleans, La. but I now live in Houston, Tx.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I’m the youngest of three with an older brother Michael and sister Angela. Married to my best friend Darlene and a father to two teenagers, Ralph III 16 and Bryanna 14.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
My latest news? I’m a fairly new published author, so everything right now is new news to me. My first published urban novel “Decisions” was published July, 2018 and the second installmentwas “Decisions 2 True Adjustments” was published June, 2019. I just finished my newest creation “A Lotus Dream” a few months ago and I’m hoping that should be out mid 2020, followed by the finale of the “Decisions” series “Decisions Trilogy”
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I actually started writing stories in high school for extra credit in my language arts class. My teacher Mrs. Jenkins was so impressed with my short stories that she enrolled me into the Journalism class the following year. My Journalism teacher Mrs. Anatole really pushed me to use my creativity and imagination with my words. So I guess that’s when I actually started writing, junior year of high school.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I didn’t really consider myself a writer until I seen my name on the cover of my first book. That’s when it all came rushing in that I’m a published author.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
My first book was originally just a hobby or outlet for me. When I first started writing it was during a trying time in my life. I had just moved to Houston from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, I was a father of a two year old, with a pregnant wife, unemployed and searching for a job. I would write just to get my mind off of the pressures I myself was dealing with.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
The title was easy, we all make decisions in life that affects us and everyone around us. A person may think, “My decisions only affect me”. But everything we decide to do has an affect in some form or fashion. Throughout both novels, my characters make decisions for themselves that touch everyone in and outside of their family.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
My writing style is merely just storytelling, painting a picture you can see in your mind. The challenge is just keeping it genuine and as realistic as possible. I want you to read about my characters and see familiarity.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My books are all completely fictional. Everything on the pages come from this twisted little mind of mine…haha. Now I have had some readers tell me that some of my characters remind them of people they know personally though but they’re all made up.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
The only traveling I do is to my laptop in my dining room and in my head.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
My graphic designer is Gerald R Johnson Jr, he’s amazing. All I have to do is tell him my vision and he’ll create it for me.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Family, love and respect
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
She’s not really new but new to me, Bryanna Mone’tis awesome. My favorite author is of course Steven King because he will have you enthralled in his works.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
My publisher Dawn “DeepRivers” Blanchard, without her I would have never thought of myself as an author.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
I would love to have this craft as my career but in these days and time I know right now I need another means to provide.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
My latest book? No. Everything in their is from the heart.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
I learned that I have to share my gift with the masses. That I should always stick to what I know and to make it my best every time I sit down and write.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Lol. My book becoming a film would be AMAZING in so many ways. But to answer your question, Idris Alba
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
NEVER GIVE UP! This is not a job where you’ll make crazy amounts of money but the true gratifying moment is when someone tells you how much they enjoyed reading your works.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
To my readers, I just want to say thank you for all the support. I write these stories for you and I have so many more in store. I appreciate every review being it good or bad because they all help me be a better author.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
“They Think I Killed Her” by Bryanna Mone’t
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
“Go Ask Alice” by Anonymous
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I like to draw, cook and write.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
This Is Us, Good Doctor
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
Favorite food? Anything with seafood and a medium steak. Color? Grey. Music? Any and everything but country.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
