Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Hi. I’m Valia Lind, currently coming in the early 30s of earth cycles.
Fiona: Where are you from?
Originally, St. Petersburg, Russia, but I call Arizona home now.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
My life is pretty busy at the moment. I work full time, 10 hour days, 4 days a week. During the other hours during the week, I write. I hold two bachelors, on in English, the other in Criminal Justice. I teach 5th and 6th graders in a church club. I sleep very little.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
Well, Season One of Hawthorne Chronicles just released as a box set and paperback. That means you can get all four books in my paranormal shifter/witches romance, all in one spot. My next release is coming October 11th, and it’s part of the Havenwood Falls collective.
Season Two is scheduled to “premiere” in November and I’m super excited about that!
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember! I never really imagined myself as a published author though, because it wasn’t a possibility for the longest time. Then, we moved to America and opportunities presented themselves after college.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
A writer? Always. An author? I still marvel at this, and I’d have to say when my first book came out in 2010.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
A daydream! I know, that’s very cliché, but so true. One night in college, I stayed up all night mulling over this idea that just wouldn’t let me go. I ended up creating everything from characters to situations. The next morning, when I told my friend about it, she urged me to write it down. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
My titles always have something to do with themes or situations in the book.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
I think I’m pretty simplictic in my writing, in that I don’t use literary style, like some do. I love to read those kinds of books, but it’s not the way my characters are in my head. There’s a balance of difficult and easy when it comes to writing for me. It’s mostly having enough time, and not being too tired.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I think all of my books have a little bit of me in them. Whether it’s in the main characters or the secondary. Some situations are probably similar too, but I don’t do it consciously.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
I wish I could travel, but I have a day job, so no.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
My main designer now is Anika at Ravenborn Covers. Her husband created the mesh cover for the box set though.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I think the main message across all of my books is believing in yourself. I write my heroines strong and my heroes sweet.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like right now, considering I’m on a crazy writing schedule, but I do love me some Elise Kova, Kay L. Moody, Joanna Reeder, Kristin Dawson. I can go on and on.
One of my favorite writers is Agatha Christie. I just love the way her books pull your right in and make you think.
.Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Absolutely! I can’t wait till it’s my only career.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I wouldn’t. I believe in my characters and their decisions.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
I always learn something! My characters have a way of teaching me more about myself, every time.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
One of my favorite recent main characters is Harper and I would love for her to be played by Jessica Rothe. My hero, Connor, can definitely be played by Taron Egerton.
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions!! I wish I would’ve asked more, and everyone always tells me that they would’ve answered if only I did.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
A huge thank you is in order! I wouldn’t be able to do this without them!
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I’m in the midst of The Lying Game by Ruth Ware. It’s Autumn, so I read a lot more thriller/mysteries.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
No! I think I may have been three at the time.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Stories! I know, that’s so typical, but I will cry and laugh at a good book or movie. Also, onions.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I’d love to meet Nora Roberts and Anne Bishop. Both are amazing authors I look up to.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I paint when I have time, and work on my bullet journal. I also love to decorate.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I don’t have as much time for TV right now, but I love shows like Criminal Minds, Supernatural, the original Charmed, and Haven. I can keep going and going.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
Currently I’m loving turquoise, Hot Cheetos, and Taylor Swift’s Lover.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
I can’t even imagine that! Honestly, I’d probably go crazy.
Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?
With my family.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
I have no idea.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
