Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Hello Fiona. My name is Becky Kapjon. I am 47 years old.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I’m from Chicago, IL.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a mother of 2 daughters and enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family. I have always been an avid reader and enjoy many different genres, so I decided to write my own stories. I am a huge Disney fan and love everything Harry Potter along with loving cheering on my favorite sports teams. I love rooting for the Chicago Bears (football), Chicago Blackhawks (hockey my favorite), Chicago Bulls (basketball) and either Chicago White Sox or Toronto Blue Jays (baseball). In my spare time, you can find me spending time with my family either watching movies, going to the zoo or at my favorite vacation spot, Walt Disney World. You can always find me with myI Pad in hand and my kindle app full of new books. I am the author of my first novel Starting Over. I hope you like reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
My latest news is I will be publishing my second book, Someone to Love this in late Fall/early Winter 2019. I am excited to share this second chance romance with everyone.
My first book was published in January, Starting Over.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing about three years ago. I am an avid reader. I read a lot of different genres. One day I thought I could write my own story. An idea had been nagging at me, so I started to write the story. I was happy to be able to get my story down on paper. I hoped people would like it as much as I liked writing it.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I first considered myself a writer when I completed my first book and sent it to my editor. I had my doubts as to if my writing was good enough to be published, so it was a great feeling when my first reader told me how much they enjoyed my writing.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I always liked reading about strong female characters. I believed a lot of woman would identify with my main character. She needed to overcome some struggles in her life. There are a lot of woman who are dealing with the same daily struggles she was dealing with in the story.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
I thought the title was fitting since the main character, Cassie needed to start some aspects of her life all over. In some ways, she was becoming a new person.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
I am what some people would call a plotser. I am a mixture of a plotter and pantser. I like to have an outline to refer to when I am writing, at the same time I will write scenes out of order. I like to write what comes to mind at the time. As far as challenges, the challenges I come across in the contemporary romance genre is making sure what I am writing about hasn’t been over done or isn’t cliché.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My book is pure fiction. My characters are pure fiction.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
I’m lucky enough to have a graphic designer in my family. My daughter Brittany Kapjon designed my cover.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
The message I want my readers to receive is no matter how bad you think your life is at the moment, you can always change. Even if you have bumps in the road, just pick yourself up and dust yourself off and try again. You will be a better person in the end.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
There are two authors who have caught my eye so to speak. They are Cara Wade and Kristen Morgen. I read Cara’s Hollywood Lust series and love it. I like the story line and how she tells the story. These characters fall in love with the most unlikely woman.
I read Kristen Morgen’s debut novel Behind the Glass. It is was a different type of love story. I enjoyed the build up of the love story and how it unfolded.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
I was lucky to be part of a great writing community who gave me the confidence to keep writing. Their encouragement helped me to be able to hit the publish button.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
At some point, I think writing could be my career. I have a lot of work I need to do to get to that place. I am learning a lot about the industry and how to get my name out there. It is hard work, but I think it will pay off in the end.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
The only things I would change would be the timing of the release and learning about the marketing process.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
While I was writing this book, I realized I needed to set goals and keep the goals. I need to keep writing even if I felt like my life was getting in the way. The story needed to be told and I needed to publish it for my readers.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
My advice would be to keep writing no matter what anyone says or tells you. If you want to write a story, then get that story out there for others to read. No matter what you do please write something every day. It will keep your thought flowing even if you think they are not.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
I hope you enjoy my book. Please give me feedback if you like the book or not. I don’t know what you like or dislike if you don’t tell me. A review is a creator’s best friend, so please give it a review.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I am reading The Truce by Becca Steele
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
The first book I remember reading is Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary and Henry Higgins.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
I am sensitive person, so there are a lot of things that give me the feels. I can laugh and cry over a good book or a movie. There are times talking to a good friend I can laugh until I cry.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I would love to meet Walt Disney. When I look at everything he had created, I wonder at the imagination he must have had. I would have loved to know if he would have thought his creations would be so popular. I also would have loved to hear him tell his story and tap into the way he thought.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I like crime shows, rom-coms, suspense.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
Italian Food and Mexican Food
I love all different types of music.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
I would be very boring. I would read more and watch a ton of TV. As a career, I would continue to be an accountant.
Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?
I would spend the time I had with my family. My family meets the world to me, so I would want to spend every moment with the ones I love.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
A loving Wife and Mother. A person who enjoyed life to the fullest.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
