Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

My name is Judy Snider. I am in my 60`s.

Fiona: Where are you from?

I am from Michigan in the USA, but now live in Virginia. My Grandpa was from England.

Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.)

I am married and have two grown sons. I have my masters in Social Work from Tulane University in New Orleans, worked as a socialworker for years, then in a children`s library and now am a full time author.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

I am excited that in November I came out with my third book, Break-In in my suspense series. They are stand alone also. I also have two children`s books published.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

In third grade, but the first book I did was Goldy`s Baby Socks, a funny book about a family that adopts a cat and all the fun that follows. I love writing and reading.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Before publishing my first children`s book (two out), I wrote many manuscripts. I love to sit in my study, my cat by my side and write and eat chocolate. Wrote my actual first manuscript with an old pencil in third grade so started then,The Mystery of The Green Hand.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

Our funny cat goldy who would pick up and drop socks. I like humorous and heart-warming books!

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

Goldy was our cat`s and she really did steal socks. I made it silly too.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

For suspense, I needed a good editor as even if one is not great at editing, your publisher or paying a private editor is a good idea. I use exclamation marks way to much..ha..really.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

In I Love You, Be Careful, which I did with my sister, Joan, it is a book for grown ups that shows all the stages one family and their daughter goes thru, and the parents always worrying about their child. I get lots of requests for this for baby showers, and grandparents gifts. Love that The Donation Man suspense was set in New Orleans!

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

No, I have them in places I know so far My first in Virginia, my second set in New Orleans, and my third suspense set in Virginia Beach.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

One by Thomas McAteer, I Love You, Be Careful from Cady Driver, and the suspense by my publisher at World Castle Publishing, Karen Fuller.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Oh, yes, the humor and warmth of people, and in my suspense strong females who are confronted by really evil people. I do not made my books gory. I like suspense not gore.I like when people want to get to the end, and I also make the books not too long.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favourite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

I am enjoying Dr. Gibson and her book about immature parents. Actually ,since it is summer and I broke my ankle awhile ago, I am reading lots of magazines. World Castle has some good suspense too.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author?

The kids at the school I worked at. They kept asking me when I was writing a book. Also before writing my published book a man helped me with one that was never published, Peanut Butter, Sassafras. Monsters and Jelly. Also Marsha C. Cook convinced me I could write fiction suspense. I said no, she said yes. Now I love writing suspense and continue thinking of ideas, I like everyday situations.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I am retired from social work, but this is my current job.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I bring in a few characters from my first book (2), and might add one more, but it is scary enough. Again ,what could happen in everyday life. I like to build in believable psychopaths.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

I always learn something for every book I do.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Halie Berry, Dallas Howard, So many others strong female in their 30s/and 40s.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

You CAN do it. Hire an editor, find someone to help you, hire an illustrator. I cannot draw and my books have illustrations I love (childrens). Most people say I could never do it, or I dream of doing a book so do it now be kind to yourself give yourself a reasonable deadline. Have your family be your cheering squad. My husband is an author and we are a good team.

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Hope you read book one then get hooked on my suspense books, and hope for the chidren` s books you want to give them to other parents, adults, as sentimental and Goldy funny. My readers like that they are a quick read.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Yes, Nancy Drew.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Besides my kids books, my family, great friends, my cats (I always put a cat in books as member of The Cat Writers Association)and my kids  I love to laugh, and let myself cry when I need to. The owners meet animals after a long time videos on youtube make me teary.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet?

Why? I really want to be in the room again with all that have passed and have a meal with them. I can`t do that, but in life, Bill Murrey. Loved his movie , What About Bob! Would love to have Ed Sherin do one of our songs oh yes, forget to say I have some songs out with my husband.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

Writing, traveling, and food.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I watch tv every night as a way to relax. I do not write at night. I am a morning person. So, New Amsterdam, Grand Hotel, Suits, SUV shows, ID channel, The Goldbergs, Fresh Off The Boat, God Friended me, etc., etc.love television, when I want to relax at nightime.

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?

Chocolate, shrimp, cheese and chips, etc. Love the color red and love blues, and all sorts of music, have music on in background. Suppose I should say our songs and my sons songs are my favourite,.ha,..but they are powerful songs.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

I was a kid I got so upset seeing the movie where books burned that would upset me I love reading, and I love writing even emails.

Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?

With all the family I could besides my husband, and have in those I know that may be alone and need comfort.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

Don` t know yet, but my best job has been being a mom, hope it says I was warm and funny and loved with all my heart
