Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

My name is Brian McCord and I’m 57 years old.

Fiona: Where are you from?

I currently reside in Arizona via Colorado, Washington state, and Oregon.

Fiona: A little about your self (ie,  your education, family life, etc.).

I’m married to Christina McCord, my beautiful wife and partner in crime! We have four kids between us, two granddaughters, and a grandson on the way in January 2019! I have a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from Full Sail University (2012) and my wife was Valedictorian of her Medical Assistant class in 1990

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

Our book is set to release on 11/13/2018 on Amazon.  It’s the first of a three-part series that chronologically starts with book two (think Star Wars).  We have begun writing book three already. It’s entitled Ascension of the Lost Souls and anticipate it’s release by mid-2019.  We will finish the series with Keeper of the Lost Souls.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I don’t remember when I started writing, but in the early 1990’s, I dabbled in poetry for a little bit. It wasn’t until I met and married Christina in 2010 that our writing started to really happen …and here we are 😊

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I don’t know that I do now.  It’s all so overwhelming.  To me, it’s mindboggling that people want to read the words on paper that we’ve put down.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

My wife and I kept having ideas pop in our heads.  They were complimentary to each other’s, so we started to put something down on paper and it morphed into Retriever of the Lost Souls.  As we were writing that one, the ideas for the other two in the series came out of it.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

Read the book and you’ll find out hahaha!

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

Because this series spans several centuries, the research for the earliest part was difficult to accomplish.  We’ve tried as best we can to paint a picture of what we were trying to write.  The genre was difficult to pin down, but we’ve included it in the Dark Fantasy genre.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

We leave it up to the reader to determine if it’s fiction or not.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

We travel in our imagination and research. The imagination is unlimited, so we can go anywhere we wish.  I would love to travel, but a serious lack of funds prevents this hahaha

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

That would be my very dear friend Jodi Ann Fahey!  We had solicited others to design a cover, but Jodi was the only one to nail it on the first design. We couldn’t be happier with it!

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

The truth is in the way they want to see it.  The truth isn’t always what it appears to be.  If it’s too good to be true, it probably is!

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

That’s a great question.  Jodi Ann Fahey is absolutely at the top of this list.  Then there’s B.J. Hardy, J. Morgan Woodall, David Pyle, and Jeremy Brittenbach.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

Beyond anything, that person is Jodi.  She’s encouraged me and led me through the murky waters of realization of this dream. She put me in touch with the right people at the right time, and as of today (9/27/2018) we are 47 days away from release day!

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Yes, but until that day comes, I still have to work haha.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Not beyond what our editor suggests.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Yes.  This dream can become a reality.  We began writing this some time ago and it’s finally being released to the world – something I doubted would ever happen. Don’t give up.  Ever.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

First things first hahahaha!

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

If you have something mulling around in your head, write it down.  Regardless of how you think it might sound! Write.  Write.  Write!

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Keep an open mind when reading the book.  It is a dark read but keep with it. It’s a message of hope.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Lucian Sword by Jodi Fahey

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

The first one I remember reading was the “French Connection”

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Silliness always makes me laugh. Cry? Well, the movie Jack Frost made me cry! I cry when I see somebody hurting either in their heart or physically. I cry when I hear of a child being abused.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

There are a lot that I would wish to meet. Perhaps those from my personal past!

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

I tinker with computers

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I’m all about action/adventure.  I enjoy comedies, but not so much chick flicks

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

I love Mexican and Italian food, but I’m an equal opportunity eater and will try most anything once, twice if I like it.  Escargot? I’ve had it and we’ll leave it at that! Oh, and my favorite color is purple.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

Perish the thought. Travel would be a good thing for me.

Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?

With my wife and closest friends

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

WiFi password is “Cul8r”

Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?

Not at this time.  I do have a page on Facebook that’s just getting started. You can find me at https://www.facebook.com/groups/253940331997671/ for upcoming news and information.  I have a domain name saved, but need to find somebody who can develop it for me.
