Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Rumer Raines and I am 40 years old
Fiona: Where are you from?
I am from the coldest place on Earth… Wisconsin
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I am a proud Introvert 😀 I have always had a “business” gene inside me. I have a BA in Marketing, and have always had small businesses. They never made me happy and I always had the dream of being a writer. My father passed away in 2014 which opened my eyes to how short life is. We should never just add things to our wish list. We should work the list too.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
I am writing my next book! My goal is to release in December and I am so excited to share it with you!
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I have always loved to write! I think I am one of the few that loved English class 😀 As a little girl I would write my mother letters all the time. It was easier for me to express my feelings on paper.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I always loved writing, but I honestly didn’t consider myself a writer until my first book was published. Even today I have to tell myself…I am a writer. Other times I think of myself as a person with an overactive imagination.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
Life is short. I always had the dream and decided I was going to accomplish it. It is hard work, but nothing in life worth having is easy.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
This is always hard for me. I researched and focused on the theme. Going forward I plan on making my titles shorter and a little more sexy.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
My books are all Mafia Romance. One of the hardest things for me is plotting murders. How can you make a character a monster and keep him loveable?
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
I have to admit that in every one of my books there are “real life” characters. These are typically the people with the most annoying traits. The people I have to bite my lip with in real life. I punish them in my books. It’s very therapeutic.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
I have visited the Mob Museum (the greatest experience) in Las Vegas. I have also done several Mob Tours.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Originally I used a cover artist and eventually hired a Personal Assistant (Amanda Walker) who now designs the covers
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Everyone has some good in them. There is a reason for everything and we need to look beyond the surface. I always believe that not everything is black and white, there is a lot of grey. I think in today’s world we are so quick to judge anyone that doesn’t look or think like us. We are all here for a reason… we need to learn from each other.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
I love Natasha Knight and Lylah James. I love the characters that they both create. Bad boys with hearts 😀
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
I am one of those people who stalk others that are on FB. I would send messages to other Indie Authors asking for advice and they would freely give it. Authors are honestly the most open people you can talk to.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
My goal is to become a full time author
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
The one thing I would always change is Marketing. I have a degree in Marketing, but it’s hard to promote yourself. I would love to have the perfect Marketing & Promo set up for all my releases
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Never Give up. Writing is hard work, but it’s rewarding. You have to make the time to do it and stick with it.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
One thing that always makes me cry is hate. I have to make a point of not reading comments on the internet because they are always so hateful. Why do we feel freedom of speech mean free to be hateful?
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
This may sound strange, but I would love to sit down and have a chat with Jesus. I want to know if I am headed in the right direction and how long will it take me to get there?
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I love Museums, Art festivals, Farmers Markets. The Mall is one of my favorite places and of course Read.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
My current obsessions are Dancing with the Stars and YOU.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
My favourite color is Purple. I love anything Italian (shocking)
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
I would try to get into Editing
Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?
I would spend time with my family in NYC
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
She loved others & lived her dreams
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
