Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

Hi My name is Dee Palmer and  I’m  ahem 40 something..

Fiona: Where are you from?

I live in the UK, about 30 miles south of London or and 8 hours drive if you’re using the M25

Fiona: A little about your self (ie,  your education, family life, etc.).

I’ve been married forever, met my husband when I was 16, we have 3 grown up children, the youngest 22 is still at home. I did a degree in Communication and lectured for a while, then left to raise the family and work with our company doing the management accounts- so dull.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I wrote my first book in 2014, which turned into the Choices Trilogy which I released in 2015. On holiday, we were going around the table when my sons asked the question ‘What would you be if you weren’t a…’ I always thought I’d like to a paint but I said writer. He asked a billion questions and on the long drive home I developed an outline of a story. Came home and just started.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I could pay all the bills myself!

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I find titles really hard but I wanted something that would intrigue me as a reader. I also wanted something that could hang a trilogy together…The Choices Trilogy worked.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

No particular style…I tend to write the dialogue first, not sure if others do that but I find the characters peaks to me and the story develops around them. I write contemporary romance, erotic romance and the biggest challenge is keeping the sex scenes interesting and sexy. They are always the hardest to write, no pun intended.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Loosely based, very loosely, the locations are very real though and frequently inspire plot lines. Ethan’s Fall is set in St Ives, Cornwall and is one of my favourites because of that.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

Every where I go, place I visit has the potential to influence my stories.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Judi Perkins at CLP designs. She’s gifted and I love her work.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

No message, just want them to escape and enjoy.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

Always finding new to me authors, they are rarely new new though. I loved Jodi Ellen Malpas This Man Trilogy and she’s be a big influence in actually having the courage to type. My favourite author I think is Tiffany Riesz, her Original Sinners series was breathtaking.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

Kymme Bullen, my best friend and biggest cheerleader, without her there would never have been a book 2, 3, 4 …

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

It is, I am super grateful for the support I get, the way Amazon enables writer to make a living. I know I missed the ‘gold rush’ for indie authors in 2010-2013 but since I have no comparison, I really can’t complain.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Since my current book is a sequel to what I thought was going to be a standalone, I wouldn’t have written the other books in between that weren’t connected. I hate leaving people waiting in between books.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Always learning, the last book I learnt a great deal about hospitals in the States.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Well I have a few books out, so I’m going to pick the first Trilogy and going by what my readers has suggested Henry Cavil would make an excellent Daniel Stone.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

Never reply to a one star review, even the low ones can help and remember everyone reads a different book.

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Oh, they are the best, I love them and absolutely love it when they reach out. Honestly, if they hadn’t I may not have carried on, especially when support was very indifferent from the family to begin with.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

The Peer and the Puppet by BB Reid

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

It was about a Guniea Pig, Old de Polga and just like now, I re-read it many many times.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

Everything games me cry, I’m a bit of a wreck and what makes me laugh will probably have me going to hell, very inappropriate sense of humour.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

Elizabeth I – think she was pretty bad ass.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

Swimming, walking, misbehaving.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Unreal, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Fleabag, Game-On bit of a mix really.

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

Anything my husband cooks, he’s an amazing cook, but pinned down I’d say his chataeuxbriand and dauphin potatoes and apple crumble.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

Paint

Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?

Oh I can’t write that…but the second thing would be being with my family.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

She danced like no one was watching, unfortunately when she sang, they weren’t so lucky.

Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?

I have a website www.deepalmerwriter.comAnd a FB reader group where I hang:
