Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

Hello everyone! And hello Fiona! Thank you so much for having me here! My name is R.M. James, and I’m a 52-year-old Latina.

Fiona: Where are you from?

I’m originally from Queens, New York

Fiona: A little about your self (i.e.,  your education, family life, etc.).

I’m currently working on a Doctor of Business Administration at Northcentral University. Graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master’s Degree in Health Administration/Education; Armstrong Atlantic State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, and South University with a Certificate in Accounting.

I live in a small rural town in Georgia just five minutes from the South Carolina stateline

I have a furry companion named Bailey she’s my best friend as well as my therapy cat. I love her to pieces! She knows when I don’t feel well and jumps on my lap just to be with me. She’s a diluted tortie-shell with attitude galore!

I have two grown boys with their own careers and a grandson of whom I love to spoil and one on the way this coming July!

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

The news is, I finally completed the manuscript to the Firefly series. The Hunt for Emily is in the hands of my publishers and hopefully released by the end of the year. My first novel, Love’s Second Chance got a fresh new cover, and I love it!

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

My career in writing began in 2012 when I stopped working due to some ailments I’ve been battling, and because I didn’t want my college education going to waste, I thought of contemporary and paranormal romance. Honestly, the writing wasn’t my first career choice being a medical doctor was (now don’t laugh). I wanted to help people.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Well, I considered myself a writer when I received good grades in my papers, so I thought I’d take a crack at writing since I loved reading romance novels.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

Well, I always wanted to tell a story, and since I stopped working, I thought I’d take a crack at the writing world.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

After finishing the story, I’d look at the characters and what they’ve gone through was how I’d come up with the titles.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

No, I do not have a specific writing style. I just sit in front of my computer and let my fingers go.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

The books I write are based on heartbreaking experiences.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

To craft my works, I’d travel around Savannah, the backwoods where I currently live, and where I’d been to get an idea.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Love’s Second Chance cover was recently updated by Laura Ranger and the designed for Firefly Kayla’s Gift was Dawné Dominique(which won the 2017 Bronze Medal for Best Cover Award!)

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Yes, that we are stronger than we think we are and never allow anyone to take our power, joy, and identity away from us. Just because we feel doesn’t mean we’re weak. There’s too much relationship bullying going on in this world, and it has to stop. To stand up for ourselves because we were created to be unique and loving individuals.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

I’d say my favorite writer would have to be Gena Showalter. She’s got a unique way of telling her tale about her characters. To be specific, the Lord’s of the Underground Series is phenomenal.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

Hands down Foundations, LLC because they believe in me and my work while others rejected me.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Seems to be that way! LOL!

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, it’s just as interesting as the first!

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Yes, that love always finds a way…and no matter the size of the battle, we can persevere.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Oh my gosh! For the male characters would be the wrestlers in WWE and for the female character, not sure yet.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

My advice for a writer is this, take your time and polish your manuscript. Make sure all the i’s are dotted because you always want to sell a good product. Nothing turns a reader off than bad grammar and mechanics!

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Life is what you make of it. You have control—if you want to be happy be happy and don’t allow anyone to tell you different. Stay strong and believe in yourself.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I’m taking a break from reading at the moment.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Oh, my gosh the first book I ever remember reading was Stars Wars!

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

What makes me cry is seeing the suffering going on in this world. What makes me laugh are the looks my cat gives me when I baby talk to her.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

That person would be Maya Angeloubecause she was a strong and admirable woman.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

My favorite hobbies are crocheting, knitting, quilting, and paint-by-numbers.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

The Avengers

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

Pizza and lasagne, fall colors, and calm, relaxing music.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

I’d paint by the sea or pass the time making friends at an outreach center.

Fiona: You only have 24 hours to live how would you spend that time?

I’d spend my last few moments with the people I love most.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

Good mother, grandmother, and Samaritan

Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events, andspecial offers?
