Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Hello! Thank you for having me!
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
I’m Sarah, or S. Ferguson. I am 33 years old.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I’m from everywhere. I was born in California and I’m married to a man in the military so we move about every 2 years.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I’m an only child. I’m a mother of 3 and I never finished college.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
I just came back from London where I had my first signing at RARE London and we also had a great family vacation. Right before that, I released my third book Grace Between Mercy.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I first started writing when I was around 12. I didn’t start writing seriously, in terms of actually wanting that to be my career, until I was around 30.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Sometimes I still don’t lol. No, I think when I published my first book, Something There In Between.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
A lot of personal experience and listening to music. I wanted to tell some of the stories from my younger years and I had a great playlist I would listen to when I was driving the kids to and from school and the ideas just kept flowing.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
Not long at all, it was from a song “So I Thought” by Flyleaf.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
I write whatever scene is in my head and then I connect them. I tried to write things in order of events but it just doesn’t work.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My first book is probably 80% real, except for the violence and mob elements. The rest of my books are pure fiction.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
I do travel a lot for my day job, but not for my writing. Maybe one day I will, but so far I haven’t written any books based in locations I would actually have to see to write.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
The wonderful Shannon with Shanoff Designs.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
That everyone deserves love. That we’re all broken and flawed and that doesn’t make us matter less or deserve less.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
My two favorite authors are Kylie Scott, for her humor and slow burn abilities, and CD Reiss for her brain. She’s probably the smartest person I know.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
There are too many people to name. I’ve been blessed with a great support system in and out of my family.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Not yet, but that is the goal.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Not really no. I don’t allow myself to think that way, otherwise I would never finish a book.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
If you don’t learn something with each book you write you’re doing it wrong.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
I honestly have no idea lol. Someone who looks good with long hair since Declan is known for his beautiful hair lol
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Just do it.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
I love you and thank you. You guys have been so supportive and the best.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
Tall Dark & Lonely by RL Mathewson
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
Not the very first one, but the first book that really had an impact on me was Go Ask Alice by Anonymous
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
I laugh at almost everything, particularly things you shouldn’t laught at.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
Princess Diana. I would have loved to meet her, she reminds me of my mom so much and that was the first celebrity death that really got to me. I cried for an hour in school.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I like watching aviation videos for fun.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
The Office, and I love all the Marvel super hero movies.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
I really like tomatoes, I’ll eat them like apples, my favourite color is blue and I like all music. I choose music by lyrics so it’s whatever I happen to connect with.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
My day job, which I love, and continue raising my family.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
I have no clue. I’m not a big fan in making plans for death, I feel like none of it matters bc I won’t be here.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
I do! You can find me at www.sfergusonauthor.com
