Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

Hi Fiona! I am Jessica Marin and I just turned the Big 4-0!

Fiona: Where are you from?

I live in Tennessee in the United States, but I was born in Chicago and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Fiona: A little about your self (ie,  your education, family life, etc.).

I am married with two children and two cats. I am a graduate of the University of Florida and before writing, I was in event management, specifically in the sports and higher education world.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

My debut novel, Heartbreak Warfare (Let Me In, Book 1), was released on February 8th and I am currently working one the 2nd novel in that series called Perfectly Lonely. Hoping for a May 2018 release.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I have always loved books, with romance being my preferred genre. I worked for a small publicity company in 2012, doing reviews and helping authors out, but had the Heartbreak Warfare story in my head the whole time. It was hard finding the time to write being a full time working mother. Fortunately I was given the opportunity to make writing my full time job in 2017.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I uploaded the book to Amazon and hit the publish button! LOL

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

When I was meeting indie authors at book signings and the encouragement from those authors when I told them I had a story inside me for the past 5 years.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I was listening to one of my favourite songs and the lyrics of the song were almost exactly identical to the story I was writing.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

I don’t think I have a particular style, but being in the romance genre is challenging just because it is the number one genre and you can get lost in the sea of amazing authors.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

I have literally never fallen in love with an actor, so I would say majority of the book is fiction. But, the main character, Jenna, is a lot like me and her best friends are based on some of my real friends.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

I do not have to travel.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Najla Qamber Designs.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

That it is important to be your own person, that having that someone special in your life is just icing on the cake. You are the only one that can truly make yourself happy. Most importantly, never give up on your dreams.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

I don’t have a favorite author as there are too many talented authors that I enjoy reading. The authors whose books I will buy no matter what their blurbs say are Anne Rice, J.R. Ward, Alessandra Torre, Whitney G, Aurora Rose Reynolds, Jasinda Wilder, Emma Chase. That is just to name a few.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

Friends and my former boss.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Yes, I hope so!

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, I love this story.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

Yes, to not publically announce an unrealistic release date!

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Henry Cavill as Cal Harrington and myself as Jenna Pruitt. LOL! On a serious note, if we take out hair color, I like Olivia Munn or Isla Fischer.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

You are going to get a lot of advice from a lot of other writers. Listen, but also follow your intuition. Also, KEEP WRITING!

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

Thank you for all of the love and support!

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

I laugh easily, as laughter is good for the heart. Seeing children hurt or sad stories make me cry.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

I would have loved to have met Princess Diana, as she seemed to have been such an amazing person.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

Besides reading and spending time with family, I like to travel.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I love rom com/comedy movies, as well as thrillers and super hero movies. For TV, I love The Voice, The Americans, lots of Real Housewives shows, Bill Maher, John Oliver, Homeland, The Handmaid’s Tale, Game of Thrones. So many good shows!

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

I could probably eat Mexican food and pizza every day. LOL. Colors, I like black, blue, grey, purple. Music…wow, so much great music. I really love dance music – especially when working out. But I do love classical during dinner. I grew up on hair bands, southern rock, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart and Neil Diamond. Still love them all! I listen to a lot of different music. Music just warms the soul!

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

I would probably go back to event planning.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

Cemeteries creep me out! LOL. I actually prefer to be cremated. But, if I had to have a head stone, I would hope it would say “Loving Wife, Mother, Friend and still hopes for world peace.”

I threw myself into my business in an attempt to ignore the pain from my failed marriage.

I thought my plan was working until I agree to a steamy week in Las Vegas withthe one man that could destroy everything I have built – including the wall around my heart.

I have no time for the likes of the sinfully gorgeous movie star Cal Harrington, who knows all the right things to say and has all the right moves. But damn him for the fire he ignited inside of me, leaving me wanting more of him.

One week. That was the plan, but fate has a funny way of bringing people back into your life when you least expect it.

I don’t want anything to do with the scrutiny of Hollywood, the paparazzi, or the heartache I know is sure to come. I don’t WANT Cal Harrington….at least that’s what my brain screams at my heart every time he burns me with his kisses.

With my heart and my mind battling it out, I am about to lose myself to heartbreak warfare.

Note: This is a series, but all novels in the Let Me In Series can be standalone novels with no cliffhangers and a complete HEA ending.
