Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Shelley Springfield, and I’m 42 years old
Fiona: Where are you from?
I’m a small-town Kentucky girl
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I’m a proud wife and mother. My husband and I have been together for 18 years (married for almost 7) and we have one son and three daughters. I’m also an animal lover, which shows with our three dogs and three cats.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
I’m currently working on book number 13. Hoping to have it released soon. Very excited about this second book in this new MC series.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I began writing almost two years ago. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, and always come up with ideas of stuff that I would like to read. I was talking to my co-author about an idea for a book that I thought she should write, and she suggested that we write it together. That was the start of my incredible journey, and I am so grateful for it.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Not until the first book went live.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I wouldn’t say anything in particular inspired it, there were just a few ideas that I came up with, that I thought would be interesting, and then the brainstorming began until the story was complete.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
That was a very tricky part. We went through many different things before settling. Finally, just decided, it was different and we both loved it.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
Writing about an MC can sometimes be challenging, mainly because of coming up with something that hasn’t already been written before
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The places we talk about, are based on places that we have been, but that’s where the similarities stop, the rest is strictly fiction. Although I’m sure it’s possible to have happened to someone, at least on some levels, not to me personally.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
I do not have to; would I like too? Absolutely!
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
We have two go-to designers that we usually use. There is no specific reason, why we choose which one for which series. We have used Marisa-Rose Wesley with Cover Me Darlings and Dana Leah with Designs by Dana
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
You never know when and where you will find love, or when love will find you.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
I won’t lie, after starting this writing journey, I haven’t read as much as I would like too. I have a lot of favorite writers, some that have been writing for awhile and others that are fairly new. Generally, if it’s an erotica book, it’s something that I would be interested in checking out.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
That would have to be my best friend. She has always believed and supported me, no matter what, and continues to do so.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
I would like too, someday, but it’s more so a hobby. It’s the best way I’ve learned to get characters and ideas out of my head.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No, I think it turned out just the way we wanted it too.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
There’s always something new to learn, no matter which part of the process that you are working on.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Wow. That’s a hard one. I guess considering that it is an MC series, I’d have to go with Charlie Hunnam. He played an amazing MC character before and I think he would do it justice, and bring the character to life.
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Don’t be too hard on yourself, and try not to second guess yourself.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
Just that I hope they know how much they mean to me. It may not be something that is said often, but they truly are what keeps authors going. If it wasn’t for them, there would be no one to enjoy our work, and that means more than they’ll ever know.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I have been trying to read an anthology that I was recently a part of. I haven’t accomplished much of it, but hopefully, when I finish my current work in progress, I can get back to it.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
I’m sure it was probably a Dr. Seuss book, I use to read them all the time when I was a kid. I also remember reading the Ramona Quimby books, Amelia Bedilia, and Junie B. Jones.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
I laugh a lot, even sometimes when I shouldn’t. But I’m also a crier, there are times when a commercial can cause me to cry.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I would love to one day meet Lady Gaga. I think she is so original and unique. She isn’t afraid to be herself and I think that is an amazing quality.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
When I have time, I spend it binge watching tv series on Netflix. I’m a natural couch potato. The tv is on if we are home, even if it’s just for the noise.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I’m a tv junkie. I watch anything from drama/crime series to reality shows. I watch just about anything.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
Favorite food: beef jerky. Favoritecolor: Pink, absolutely love the color pink. Music: Classic Rock
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
Hopefully that is when I’m older and the kids are grown, and I can do a lot of traveling!
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
The bitch had to go sometime. Haha that would be funny. In all honesty, it doesn’t matter to me, something about being a beloved or devoted wife, mother and friend would be ok with me.
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
I do have a website. It’s https://www.authorshelleyspringfield.comI also have a newsletter that I send out when I have a cover reveal or new release.
