Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

My name is Keegan Baxley. I am the Author of Elixir of Magic: Flame spell, the first book in a planned series.

Fiona: Where are you from?

I am from the United States. Arkansas to be exact.

Fiona: A little about your self (ie,  your education, family life, etc.).

I am a notoriously private person; But some small tidbits include… I am married with one daughter, two step daughters and two adorable dogs.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

I am almost finished with the sequel to my debut novel Elixir of Magic: Flame Spell. I also have a YA adventure novel that I am working on and have begun working on a few romance titles

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing. I don’t want to sound cliché but I was born with the passion to write and felt the need even before I could form a legible word. My imagination overflows with ideas.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Actually not until I got my very first positive critique which was on a paper I wrote in college.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

A specific emotional upheaval in my life, followed by a desire to be more than “just” satisfied with my job.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

My book was actually originally titled something else, but the reviews found the title flat lined in relation to the subject matter I was writing about. I drew on my years as a fantasy role player to “conjure” up a more appropriate title.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

My style is to write until the mood has passed or my fingers are numb from the keystrokes. The challenge in this way of writing is that the mood may not come around again for days or weeks.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Most of my characters are based on friends and family, I will even “borrow” names and change them up a bit. The experiences are somewhat driven by real life but lean more toward dreams I have had.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

I did a lot of traveling in my twenties, now I tend to be more of a homebody.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I have family that can design covers and I have also outsourced the project to a variety of places. My book has seen about seven different covers so far. I am a bit of a cover addict.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I want my readers to feel as though they have been swept up in an unforgettable adventure.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

I have been so busy with my own writings that I haven’t had the chance to seek out new authors lately. As far as classics, I do love Alice Hoffman, for her ability to tell a story that grabs you emotionally.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

Two of my college professors. They both made me feel as though my work had substance and depth and they encouraged me to keep going.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Absolutely! I wouldn’t have followed this path if I thought otherwise.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Not a single thing, except the cover, because I am a cover addict.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

I learned that I am far better than I give myself credit for.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Emma Watson. She’s so talented and versatile.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

Work hard, work like it’s the most important thing in your life and research until you can’t stomach it anymore. Do not go into this world with blinders on. If you lay a strong foundation, you will see success.

Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

I will not fade into the background; you can look for more exciting work from me coming very soon to an Amazon or bookstore near you! I also run giveaway contests and periodically price cut around holidays. Reviews are the lifeblood of an author. If you like what you read, please remember to leave a review because you are part of what contributes to the success of your favorite authors. Let your voice be heard!

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I am reading and re-reading a few I am polishing for publication.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

Poky little puppy. I loved that story!

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

To laugh is to live and as such I laugh at most anything, especially myself. Very few things will make me cry faster than James Stewart in the movie, “It’s a wonderful life” that movie moves me to tears every time I watch it.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

Honestly, I would love to meet J.K. Rowling, because anyone who can dream up the world that she did would be a blast to hang out with!

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

I have recently gotten into making mesh wreaths. I also play computer games including World of Warcraft and the Sid Meyers Civ games.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

I love “Good behavior” It has to be my number one favorite show right now. Give me a huge blockbuster adventure movie and I am in, every time!

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors,  music?

Chocolate! Above all things Chocolate is my favorite food! I love Richard Marx. I have loved him since I first heard him and his new stuff is still just as amazing.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

If able, I would travel the world and live some of the adventures I write about.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?

Keegan had a heart of gold.

Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?

I tend to hang out a lot on my face book page at https://www.facebook.com/AuthorKeeganBaxley/ as well as my Amazon author central https://www.amazon.com/Keegan-Baxley/e/B077GDGK1V/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0
