Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
My name is CJ Cassidy and I am 62 years old. And popular to contrary belief; I am a man.
Fiona: Where are you from?
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
I’m actually a fictional character from one of my novels. I use this pen name to protect the women I wrote about.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
Presently I am working on a book series; “ClownTown” about a town in which half the town’s people wear clown make-up for no apparent reasons. They’re not clowns. The series starts off with a murder mystery but the novel is a thinly veiled social commentary of our times. We’er hope to turn it into a web series.
My live write series; “Tell-Tale-Hearts” goes into its second season on September 9th on FaceBook.
We are planning to make my novel; “The Tortured Soul Trilogy” into a film: “The Secret Diary of Katherine Stark”
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I started at age 50 after being hit by a bolt of lightning. My first novel didn’t do well but got the attention of woman that asked if I would write her bio. I have been writing and publishing my work ever since.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
The moment my teacher taught how to put words on paper.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I was asked to do a biography by a woman who was a survivor of abuse and domestic violence. That novel defined my future career.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
The book was about the man that ‘saved her life’, so I called it; “A Tortured Soul” There were a few novels with that title so I lengthened it to: “A Tortured Soul – The Unauthorized Biography of Nicholas Anderson”
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
I am not your run of the mill author. I switch the POV from the first and third person as the story moves me. This has been a source of contention with some of my readers, but I don’t care. In life, a story isn’t told from one POV. When I get flack about it, I think of Bruce Lee in; ‘Enter The Dragon’. “It is like a finger pointing to the moon, don’t concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory!”
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
My first few novels are biographies based on actual events. I have written fiction, but even then, the storylines are based on some sort of personal event.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
If you mean physically, the answer is no. If you mean mentally, my mind wanders the globe and the furthest reaches of time and space.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
At first, my publisher, then I did my own. My covers are now designed by Yareth Gomez of Sweet Red Productions. She is now also my executive producer of all my projects.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
“The Tortured Soul Trilogy of Pain and Pleasure”, is a story of three women who are survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. The message is plain and clear; there IS a way out! As of date, over 50 women have freed themselves or redefined their abusive relationships. I am very proud of that.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
Strangely enough, I don’t read. The one person whose novel I await is the biography of Maxine X. She is a fetish film star and entrepreneur. She allowed me to read her first draft and she is a very talented writer. It may be years before her bio; “Follow The Yellow Brick Road” is completed, but I wait for the day to get my copy.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
Many have jumped on the bandwagon for a free ride, few got out and pushed.
The first group of true supporters I must mention are my readers, they have become die-hard fans of mine and have gone out of their way to help promote my work.
The second; Ms. Yareth Gomez. I have worked with many professionals in the past 12 years that talked a good game of how they could help my career. Yareth didn’t talk about it, she did it. In less than six months she has produced video trailers for my novels that have been seen by thousands, she remade my book covers and she now produces my live write series; “Tell-Tale-Hearts” with is now followed by fans world-wide. She is presently working on having my novel turned into a series of feature length films.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
No, writing is what I do…
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Never! I wrote it, I meant it, I won’t change it!
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
My most recent novel, a biography of a porn princess, Michelle Treas Belle; “Innocence Lost – From Tragedy To Triumph” has shown me that there are scores of women out there suffering and in pain, and these amazing women only wish to reach out and tell the world; “Don’t let THIS happen to you!”
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
LOL! Names like Amy Adams, Michael Fassbender and Mark Ruffalo have been thrown around in our discussions, truth of the matter is; the roles will go to up and coming actors who will redefine their careers with these roles.
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Write it, write some more, keep writing, delete NOTHING, edit as if your life depended on it, and when you’re happy with the story; publish it!
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
I love each and every one on my readers, even if you like my work or not, you read it and that makes all the difference.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I don’t read, but I am presently working on; “Clowntown 3 – The Return of Bo Rodgers” and “ClownTown 4our – Return To ClownTown”
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
The first book? No. The novel that first moved me? “Great Expectations” by Dickens.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Funny jokes/Writing the stories of these amazing women.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I have always wished that I could have been there when Jesus walked his path. I just want to be near him.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
I used to body build but I haven’t been in a gym for almost a year.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I stopped watching TV altogether about a year ago. I haven’t been to the movies longer than that.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
PIZZA!!!! Colors? Eh! All genre of music but I tend to focus on the sounds of the 80’s
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
“All I ever prayed for; is to do the right thing when it was needed and the wrong thing when it did the least amount of damage.”
Fiona: Do you have a blog or website readers can visit for updates, events and special offers?
So, let me tell you a little about myself…
Contrary to popular belief; I am NOT an erotic author. I write about the human condition. I write about women who endure trials and tribulations. I write about triumph over adversity. It just so happens…. They like to f**k a lot!
I started out as an unknown writer and my very first novel was picked up by a fan who asked me to write her biography. She was impressed with the way I told and set-up a story. I agreed. The subject matter was dark and moody as she was a victim of domestic abuse. About 100 pages into her story; it turned into a novel about BDSM. I balked. I didn’t wish to be known as someone who wrote those types of novels. I was convinced by my pastor to continue and I published my first erotic novel under the pen name; CJ Cassidy. Since publishing the novel; over 50 women got out of or redefined their abusive relationships. I am very proud of that. I cry when I get a card or a letter for a reader telling me that my novel changed their life. I am humbled by the path I have chosen.
I live in the shadows, writing about women in pain and their deliverance. In my public appearances, I wear a mask. I swore never to reveal the identity of my ‘Katherine’ and I wear it to protect my family from any backlash from my work. I have also helped other women write their stories as well. I like what I do.
And if you didn’t know… the novel is based on the lives and loves of three REAL women and the ACTUAL events in their lives! The names; places and time has been changed to protect the innocent and their families. Over 50 women have gotten out of or redefined their abusive relationships because of this novel. I’m very proud of that!
There is going to be a point in time where you’re going to say to yourself’ “I should have read this book sooner!”
Well… Get a glass of wine, light a scented candle, snuggle under your covers and we’ll see where tonight takes you!
“Lady Latex redefines the notion of what a woman with determination has to do in order to survive…”
“Jennifer X has the uncanny ability to incite raw passion in any man or woman with her Jenny ‘Mojo’…”
“Katherine Stark is the epitome of the ingénue, the damsel in distress… with a dark twist…”
“Nicholas Anderson is a sexual dynamo… He is the next ‘Bondage’… James ‘Bondage’…!”
“CJ Cassidy has truly brought sexy back with this erotic biographical novel…! Kudos!”
