Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.
Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?
Hello everyone! My name is Betty Page and I am 41, just shy of turning 42.
Fiona: Where are you from?
I am a born and raised Texan.
Fiona: A little about your self (ie, your education, family life, etc.).
Majority of my adult life I have committed to raising my children. I always wrote but never really published my work until 2 years ago. It quickly became one of the decisions I ever made. Currently I am seeking my Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and English Literature. This should make for an interesting journey, right?
I had the privilege to accompany my husband while he served in the U.S. Navy. During that time, I fell in love with the state of Oklahoma. It truly is a wonderful, family oriented state. Our travels took us back home to Texas and now in transition to relocating to California. I truly look forward to the many stories and memories to come.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news.
My latest manuscript idea centers around the struggles we as a family have experienced with my daughter’s health scare. Without giving too much away, it touches topics of bullying, the many complications of anxiety/depression and finally the light which embarks a new beginning. This of course, has a romantic plot too.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing
After careful consideration and getting over the initial fear of putting myself out there, I put pen to paper and wrote my first book in 2014.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Looking back, I didn’t think of myself as a writer until I rebranded my books in 2015 under my second pen name Betty Page. This, for me, became my a-ha moment where I saw myself as a writer.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
Every time I pulled one of my notebooks out and read passages of notes or short stories I wrote I realized they all had the same theme. Romance, strong alpha men and of course some naughty fairytales. One day, I thought, these need to be told. So, I did.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
My husband kept telling me, he saw how successful my writing would be. Every time I presented him with a paragraph or a chapter to read for me, he kept telling me, “you see, you can do anything.” Fitting the story and his inspiration, I came up with Through His Eyes.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?
Not sure exactly whether I have a writing style but I write what I love and I hope everyone else enjoys it. My favorite genre is Romance, there are many circuits to explore storytelling this way. That is my greatest challenge.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
There is very little realism in my book. I did get the idea mostly from a friend who would not settle for one guy and ended up with the wrong guy.
Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?
Truthfully, I don’t have to travel. When we do get to travel, I always carry something to write on. Thanks to technology, I can travel virtually too.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
I worked on the covers myself.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Love, you need love in your life. There are certain things we cannot do alone and at one point, we all need a hero.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?
I recently read Mark of Truth by Gaceley Knox. Her talent for the paranormal is outstanding. My all-time favorite author is Jane Austen.
Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.
Through an author’s group I met Krystin When I first met her, my draft was only half complete.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Writing is something I foresee in my future. So, yes I think I do.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
There are things I would like to improve but I leave them alone. It serves as a reminder how far my writing has matured.
Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
No amount of edits and rereads will make it perfect but will the book enjoyable for readers.
Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
I have an unhealthy fascination with Jencarlos Canela. He’s a talented musician and actor.
Fiona: Any advice for other writers?
Everyone always says to just write. I like to say write from the heart. A bit of you in every story goes a long way.
Fiona: Anything specific you want to tell your readers?
Read my books and take what you will from it. I write to entertain and if I accomplished this, thank you.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I received an early copy of Misadventures of City Girl by Meredith Wild &Chelle Bliss.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
The Babysitters Club is one of many that sticks out from an early age.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
For me, weddings can make me do both.
Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I would love to have met Joan Rivers. Her honesty, sense of humor and sarcasm always made me want to live my life grand.
Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?
Aside from books, I love to sit and crochet. Hand embroidery is something I too enjoy.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I binge watch a lot of shows. My favorite is Hawaii Five-0. Reality TV is addicting too.
Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?
I’m a pizza girl, through and through. Purple is my choice of color. There’s always a shade of purple to go with anything. I don’t stick to one genre of music. I have a secret crush on boy bands, so I guess that’s my guilty pleasure in music.
Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?
I would be living on the coast enjoying retired life without a worry in the world.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone?
She loved big to live big.
