Hello and welcome to my blog, Author Interviews. My name is Fiona Mcvie.

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we? Tell us your name. What is your age?

Hi Fiona. It’s great to meet you. I’m Karina Kantas and you should never ask a lady her age.   😉Let’s just say I’m middle aged.

Fiona: Where are you from?
I’m from the UK but I have lived in Greece most of my life.

Fiona: A little about yourself (ie, your education, family life, etc.).

I have two beautiful daughters who speak both language. I used to work for a marketing firm but then I met a Greek barman called Spiros. and then I packed up and moved to Greece.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news.

I’m just about to start work with my editor on Illusional Reality, The Quest.

I’m also working through a dystopian erotica that I co-wrote with another author. That should be ready very soon.

And Huntress, my MC romancewon 2nd place in ‘Best Of’ blog contest.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I was always making up adventures in my head and creating my own stapled -together books. It wasn’t until I moved to Greece and I had a lot of time on my hands in the winter, that I decided to move forward with my writing and get published.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I received my first check for a film review I did. That’s when I felt I could use the label, published writer. The cheque is still framed and on the wall of my office.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

It was a Who. I decided to write In Times of Violence after reading all of S.E.Hinton’s novellas, The Outsiders, Rumble Fish, That Was Then This Was Now, Tex, Taming Of The Star Runner.  What I loved about the books is that even though they were Greasers, hoods and outlaws, she made the characters lovable and you actually cared about what was happing to them. I wanted to give my readers the same reaction. I wanted to write about a group of people that refused to conform to societies rules and expectations. Characters that were looking for a place where they fitted in.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

In Times Of Violence
A lot of fighting goes on in this book and as we follow through Jade’s life as a member of the Tyrants, things change, people get older and that’s when you start looking back.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style? Is there anything about your style or genre that you find particularly challenging?

I’m a prolific author and write in all genres and many writing styles. To be honest I can say I probably suck at Sci-fi. My stories are more like a re run of Star Trek.  I’m not a huge fan of the genre but then when I move away from the space scenes and start writing about the DNA and virus’s, that when the stories turn to gold.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

There’s always a part of me in every book or story I write. In Times Of Violence is quite biographical as is my YA supernatural thriller, Stone Cold and with Lawless Justice, my vigilante MC thriller, the main character ICE is my ego the black side of my personality.

Fiona: To craft your works, do you have to travel? Before or during the process?

No. research is all done online or books. I have bad health and can’t travel.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

The first editions coverswereby artists and authors I met on my many writing groups, way back when. Now I only use one designer, Sharon Lipman from fantasia cover designs.

https://www.facebook.com/FantasiaCovers/

She did Illusional Reality, Heads & Tales, and then did the back covers for OUTLAW paperbacks and we are currently working on the cover for Illusional Reality.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Family doesn’t always mean blood.  And there is another half waiting for you to make you whole.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?  Who is your favorite writer, and what is it about their work that really strikes you?

So I have yet to read the full book from this author, but I have done narration and promotion for her and also had her as a guest on my radio show. Straight off the back she knew which route and path she was going to take. And name dropping has opened so many doors for her. I admire and respect Mackenzie Fleur, author of The Rite Of Wands, for that. She’s also so confident in her book and ability. even when she had a troll harassing her and posting bad ratings and reviews. She didn’t need my advice as she handled it like a pro.

Fiona: Outside of family members, name one entity that supported your commitment to become a published author.

My BFF Stephen Barr (Who is also a fabulous artist) has stood by me through thick and then and has been my biggest fan from the first time we met in a UK Lord Of The Rings Fan Club, that I then went on to manage. He also gets a read of any first drafts I do, then the ARC.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

No. I have no agent, I have no funds to get a script written and sent to producers. Nor do I have the funds for foreign rights translations.

Fiona: Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?

I learn from my editor as each book passes her hands., especialy with my last book, Illusional Reality.

Fiona: If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?

Illusional Reality, Thya would be played by either, Cameron Diaz or Jenifer Lawrence.

Fiona: Any advice for other writers?

Make sure you have the money to do this is you’re are going independent. Do not published unfinished work. You need money for professional editing, formatting, cover design and publicity.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Currently editing Illusional Reality, The Quest, so no time for reading

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

That’s far too long back to remember. The first book I remember reading was in my middle school a book you may recognize, The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

My kids.

Fiona: Is there one person, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

Yes, S.E.Hinton, to thank her for writing those classics and inspiring me to become an author.

Fiona: Do you have any hobbies?

My only other hobby is singing. I used to sing lead in a rock band and now I sing in a bar now and again.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Anything paranormal. True Blood, Teen Wolf, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural GOT and then shows like Master ink, Hell’s Kitchen, Face off.

Fiona: Favorite foods, colors, music?

Stuffed tomatoes (Greek)
Purple is my favourite colour, and I do listen to all genres of music but Rock music is where my passion lies.

Fiona: Imagine a future where you no longer write. What would you do?

This is reality for me. I’m about to publish my final novel. Since becoming ill I no longer have the passion and drive to write a full novel. I’m sure I will write flash fiction now and again, and who knows, maybe one day I will release another collection, but for now I’m concentrating on going out with a bang!

Once IR2 is out, I plan to concentrate on my services, Author Assist.

Knowing I’m helping another author get to their feet and find the right path, is so gratifying for me. Teaching them what I have learned in these past 25 years makes all the sweat and tears worth it. So, with that and my 9 books, I’m happy with the legacy I’ll leave.
