Name  Jennifer Theriot

Age On the right side of 60

Where are you from  The Great State of Texas!

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I’m married with 3 grown children and 4 amazing grandkids. I work as CFO for a woman-owned real estate investment firm (where I’ve been for over 17 years) I love my day job, and do most of my writing at nights and on weekends. My family is very close and I’m so blessed.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I’m currently working on the 2nd book in my Noel and Leon series, called Finding Joy. (The first was Unwrapping Noel) The series is about a full figured woman who has been through a tumultuous marriage and meets a sexy silver fox named Leon Hallas while on a business trip to the Silicon Valley. They fall in love and Leon helps her overcome her low self esteem and begin to trust and enjoy life again.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

Halloween night of 2012

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

As a kid, poetry was my favorite thing…it was an escape for me.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

A dare from two of my best friends. We were talking about the lack of romance novels about women our age.  In jest, I told them I’d write one and from there, it came to fruition in the form of Out of the Box Awakening. I’d planned on writing just one book to say I did it, but it evolved from there and the characters told me we weren’t finished yet.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

First person is what I prefer. Somehow, that’s how my characters speak to me. It’s worked, so I figure I’ll stick with it.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

My main character, Olivia Petersen was thrown into a life-changing  event and she was forced to step out of the box. She had an awakening of her life and feelings, hence the title: Out of the Box Awakening.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Absolutely! My message is that I want women to feel good and confident about themselves. Just because life throws you a curve ball, you CAN rebound and come back stronger than ever if you just believe in yourself.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic and are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

I’ve certainly been hurt in a relationship before, so some of the emotions rang pretty true to life experiences.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

My all time favorite book…and I KNOW I’m dating myself is Valley of the Dolls.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

A group of female authors I belong to called The Crazy Lady Authors. We’ve been together for about three years now and it’s like a sisterhood….pretty darn amazing!

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I write more as a hobby. I have a full time job and since I’m 62, the career I’m looking ahead to is R.E.T.I.R.E.M.E.N.T. ….I do plan on continuing my writing as long as I have readers.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Not at all.  Once I finish a book, I move on to the next and follow the direction of my characters.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I’m currently working on the 2nd book with characters Noel Calabrese and Leon Hallas.  (Did you spot the palindrome?) The first was Unwrapping Noel, and this 2nd book is Finding Joy. The series is about two people brought together by fate. Each has had a bum rap with relationships and each has had self esteem and body issues.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

The lack of time…

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

My research traveling is done via Google.  It’s a wonderful tool. You can find literally anything with the  tap of a few keys!

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

JC Clarke of The Graphics Shed does all of my covers and I love her work. A good cover artist who understands the author is a wonderful match.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Finding enough hours in the day!!!

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Me, it was empowering…ya know? You have this woman that you’re telling ‘You can DO this” ….it rubbed off on me. It sounds strange, I know, but in writing my Out of the Box series, I think I became a stronger woman myself.

Fiona: If any of your books was made into a film who would you like to play the lead

Olivia Petersen:  Diane Lane   Ash Harper:  Kevin Costner

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

If you dream it, do it!  Solicit help from the Indie Community. I’ve found some wonderful people within the confines of it and everyone is so eager to share their experiences and help you.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

If you have a dream, by all means, pursue it!

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Coming Home by Teri Riggs

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

A Nancy Drew mystery…can’t remember which one, but I read them all (I’m dating myself)

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

I love baseball, so love to go to watch our Houston Astros. I love going to the beach, and I also love to do crafts when time allows.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

My FAV TV show is Blue Bloods…who doesn’t like Tom Selleck!

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

Favorite food is Italian. Favorite color is coral. Favorite music is classic rock

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?
