Name: Heather Doltrice
Where are you from: Augusta, Georgia
I grew up with an older brother in the suburbs of Augusta. I graduated a few years ago and am now working as a nurse at one of the larger hospitals in the CSRA area.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news?
My first book TEMPTED is going to be released on Feb. 23rd. I’m SO EXCITED!
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
A few months ago, and because my fiancé (USA TODAY Bestselling Author Conner Kressley) suggested that I should. Thanks for the shameless plug there 😀
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’ll let you know lol
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I’m an avid reader, and I decided to write the things I enjoy reading. Of course, while putting my own personal spin on it.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?
I’m most comfortable in first person past tense. Of course, that might change as I go forward.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
Actually, my fiancé suggested it. He’s good about things like that.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
TEMPTED is about a woman who, through love and adversity, is finally able to stand on her own two feet and be the person she always knew she could be. So, if there’s a lesson in there, I think I’d like it to be that; that you can be and do whatever you want. So long as you have the courage.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?
Oh, it’s all realistic. I grew up in a small town. So I’m well aware of the politics and ins and outs that go along with that.
Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Not really. Like I said, I’m also from a small town, but that’s where the similarities end. Unlike Emma (my main character) I’ve never had a problem speaking my mind.
Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?
I’m a huge Rachel Van Dyken fan. I love her style and the way she nurtures a relationship. But I would have to say that her Eagle Elite series is my favorite.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
I’m currently rereading Fallen Crest by Tijan! It’s awesome.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I’m pretty new myself. So I can’t say that I’ve delved into that too much. Though I have found a network of friends and authors who really inspire me. Natasha Larry comes to mind.
Fiona: What are your current projects?
Currently, I’m working on SAVED, the sequel to TEMPTED, and after that I have a few more books in that world up my sleeve as well as an idea that I’m really excited about.
Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
Some of my coworkers have been amazing. Nurses are really the best people in the world.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
I’d like to. Yes.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I’ll let the readers tackle that question lol
Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
Since birth really. I’ve always enjoyed storytelling.
Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I already did. It’s SAVED (TEMPTED Book 2)
Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Everything. This definitely isn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.
Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
I wish! I really don’t have time. I’d love to work that in somehow though.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Just keeping at it. Writing requires a lot of work, long night, weekends, all of it. Just not stopping was the most difficult thing.
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
That I could do it, and that I could do it well. It’s a great feeling.
Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?
Oh, I don’t think I’m in a position to give anybody any advice. Check back with me in a year lol
Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I adore you. Thank you so much
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
Muggy Maggie, back in elementary school. Though I’m sure other books were read to me before that.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Movies, television, books. Anything really. I’m such a drama queen
Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?
A lot of people. If I had to pick, maybe one of my family members who passed before I was born. I’d like a fuller idea of where I came from.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?
I’d like it to read ‘When one door closes…’
Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?
Sleeping would be nice lol. I also like going to the movies with friends. Disney is amazing. So I’m usually planning my next trip there. Other than that, work and writing keep me busy enough.
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
How to Get Away with Murder, Grey’s Anatomy, All the Chicago shows. I’m such a TV whore. I’ll watch anything. I also love horror movies!
Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music
Pasta, red, and way too much to talk about.
Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?
I love being a nurse. I also think I’d have been a good teacher. So there’s that.
Fiona: Do you have a blog/website?
If so what is it?
