Name Elle Raven

Where are you fromAdelaide, Australia

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I’m married and have 3 young children

I work full time as a primary school teacher, teaching English as a second language

My worst phobia is BIRDS and being in an elevator on my own. Hate them both!

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I was recently part of a Mafia Anthology which released Dec 1st. I wrote  a short novella called CALABRESE

I’m currently writing my final Barossa Series (book 4)  HEAL ME – releasing in March 2016.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

Being an English teacher I’ve always had the desire to write. It was just a matter of taking the plunge. I’ve only been writing just over a year so I took my time. I thought about it for years especially when I was a stay at home mum. My husband used to say “Why don’t you write a book?”

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Ha! I actually I still don’t really consider myself one. I do it as a hobby but I suppose I am a ‘writer’ right?

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

My dad inspired me. Every time he’d see me he’d tease me because I was always reading or always studying. So he’d say “have you started writing that book yet? You could’ve written 3 or 4 by now!”

Little did he know I was pregnant again but with twins. Sorry dad, it looks like my book will be on hold a while longer!

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

Maybe I do,  but I like to change things around a bit in each book if I can.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

I have lots of notepads with a gazillion potential titles. The title of my novella in the anthology CALABRESE was named after my fathers hometown in Reggio Calabria, Italy.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

There’s a different message in all my books. However my mafia books are probably screaming out “don’t mess with the mafia” type message

How much of the book is realistic?

The Romance genre is highly based on fiction. But there are many aspects in my books that are very true and realistic. For example I had a great time visiting the Barossa Valley to research my Barossa Series and find out all about the Barossa vintage festival and how Australian wine is made and fermented. That was the best experience ever!!

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Yes to some extent they are.

One of my characters Jada in Control Me  (Barossa Series #1)  suffers from anxiety disorder which I can relate to having experienced severe anxiety for over a year. Then in my mafia books there are some violent scenes and killings which my father described to me from his time in Italy and his own experiences within the Calabrian mafia in Australia.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

That would have to be the late Jackie Collins. I loved her.

And Sydney Shelton. Awesome author. Just magical!

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Nothing. I can’t remember the last time I read a book 😦

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I’m always looking for new authors and I’m always asking my st team for recommendations.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I’m currently in the process of writing the final book in my Barossa Series, HEAL ME and I’m plotting the next Stud Mafia book THE UNDERBOSS: Dante

And…I’m working on something special with one of the anthology authors.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members

All my friends who know I write support me

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Definitely and Especially if I had more time.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I’m forever changing things in books right up to the last minute.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve always loved writing from a young age. I remember lunch times at school all I’d want to do was write but my friends wanted to play games instead

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Finding the time to write more.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Madeleine Sheehan. She’s an MC author but not your conventional author

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

No it’s all done via Facebook and email/internet unless I am attending a signing

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Margreet Asselbergs from rebel edit ,

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

For me the hardest part is always the first few chapters where you build you build relationships and connections. Not that it’s hard it’s just time consuming

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

Take your time. Get your ideas down. Don’t rush it. Don’t stress. It’s all part of self publishing so why stress yourself out

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Have fun and enjoy what you do. Don’t allow the negative things or people get to you especially things like negative reviews. Just take them with a pinch of salt. You can’t please everyone and different people like different books.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

To my loyal readers and fans

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

I think it was annEnid Blyton book

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

love comedy dhows and films. I used to love horror films but as I’m getting older I’m becoming more of a ‘scaredy cat’.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

Potato is my all time favourite food. It’s the best carbohydrate food of all time. I love it in any way shape or form – mashed, fried, roasted, hashbrowns

Blue is my favourite colour. It’s relaxing and soothing to the soul. I always go for blue when I’m out shopping.

Music gets me chilled out especially country music. But I’d have to say rock music is the ultimate for me.

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

Write blurbs to books. I love doing that. I could write them all day and night!!!
