Fiona: Tell us your latest news?
We are currently finishing up our eighth book this year, Scarred Warrior. It is the fourth installment in our Dark Warrior Alliance. Dream Warrior and Mystik Warrior books 1 and 2 in the Dark Warrior Alliance were given the Top Pick award by NightOwl Reviews which was a HUGE compliment!
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
We began writing three years ago when we were sitting by the pool discussing our favorite authors and their stories.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Neither one of us considered ourselves a writer until we completed the first draft of Dream Warrior. It was in bad shape and we ended up revising it numerous times, but the fact that we had completed a novel proved that we were in fact writers.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
Brenda’s first husband was murdered when they were newly married and it became the inspiration for Elsie’s background.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?
We prefer to write in the third person and always try to interject humor into our stories.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
In our Dark Warrior Alliance series, each of our warriors has a special ability and our hero in the first book, Dream Warrior, can enter people’s dreams.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Live life to the fullest because you never know when your time will be up.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic ?
Like we said earlier, Elsie’s background was based on Brenda’s experience, but that is where fact ends.
Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?
Caris Roane has become a mentor in the writing field for us, giving advice and opportunities that we would not have had otherwise. She is a wonderful writer and an even better person!
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
Dannika Dark’s Seven series
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Dannika Dark, Tami Lund, Melanie James
Fiona: What are your current projects?
Scarred Warrior and a new series based on dragon shifters
Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
Our close friends, Sherry Cope and Tammy Kimbro
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Absolutely! It is by far the hardest career we have ever pursued. It is not just about the writing, but so much more.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
There are always changes you can make to your manuscript!
Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
We have always loved books.
Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Sorry, we are still in the process of editing Scarred.
Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Managing the social media and business side of writing and publishing a book. That is a full-time job in itself.
Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
JR Ward and Karen Marie Moning by far are favorites of ours. The way they tell stories is gritty and captures your attention right away.
Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
Other than going to conferences, there hasn’t been much traveling so far. Hopefully that will change.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Trish at Pickyme did the covers and is fabulous to work with.
Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Keeping the flow when you have so many stops and starts in the writing process. You don’t want that reflected in your work.
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
We learned that we had no idea what we were doing and not to be too attached to anything because it could end up on the cutting room floor.
Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?
Keep writing and seek out other authors to form relationships with.
Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you for supporting our work!
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
Dr. Seuss The Cat in the Hat
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
We laugh about almost everything. We have both been through a lot in our lives and make it a point to find the humor in daily life.
Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?
Creating cocktails, running, swimming, reading
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
Mostly action-adventure or comedies
Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music
We love country music and a variety of foods. Vietnamese and Thai are particular favorites.
Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?
Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?
