Sally Ember, Ed.D., has been passionate about writing since she was nine years old. She’s won prizes for her poetry, stories, songs and plays. She began meditation in her teens. Now, Sally delights fans of paranormal and romance by blurring the lines between fact and fiction in a multiverse of multiple timelines, often including exciting elements of utopian science fiction and Buddhism.
Born Jewish on the cusp of Leo and Virgo, Sally’s life has been infused with change. Currently, she meditates, writes, swims, reads and hosts her Google+ Hangout On Air (HOA) *CHANGES*, LIVE conversations with authors, almost every Wednesday, 10 – 11 AM Eastern time USA.
In her “other” professional life, Sally has worked as an educator and upper-level, nonprofit manager in colleges, universities and private nonprofitsin many parts of the USA before returning to live in St. Louis, MO, in August, 2014. Sally has a BA in Elementary Education, a Master’s (M.Ed.) and a doctorate in education (Ed.D.).
Her space opera, “The Spanners Series,” offers sci-fi /romance/ speculative fiction/ paranormal/ multiverse/ utopian ebooks for New Adult/adult/YA audiences which are getting great reviews.
Vol I, “This Changes Everything,” is now FREE everywhere since Vol II, “This Changes My Family and My Life Forever,” released April, 2014. Vol III, “This Is/Is Not the Way I Want Things to Change,” releases for pre-orders November, 2015, and Volume IV, “Changes in Attitude, Changes in Latitude,” releases in late winter, 2016, with Volumes V – X soon after that.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?
The Spanners Series has a third Volume available late Fall, 2015, and another one coming out in late Winter, 2016.
My Patreon crowdfunding campaign (http://www.patreon.com/sallyember ) is hoping to gather funds for the Series’ ebooks to be formatted into print (covers, spine, etc.) and for the audio/video equipment of *CHANGES* to be improved as well as to help fund the writing and covers of Volumes IV and beyond.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
I was awakened one night by hearing a voice (my own) narrating Clara’s first encounter with the alien holograms. I got up to write it all down and also the outline of the entire first book and the synopsis for each of the subsequent nine volumes for the series that same night.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
“The Spanners” are the generations of people (and animals) whose ages make them the Earth inhabitants who are alive through both the turn of the 21st century AND the public announcement of the Many Worlds Collective’s existence, previous visits, and intentions to help Earth survive, thus bridging, or “spanning” both ways of living/thinking/being. They are the “before” and “after” characters.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Compassion, caring, empathy, acceptance, inclusiveness, and more cooperation with less selfishness/greed and eliminating violence are the ONLY routes to Earth’s survival. Also, WE ARE NOT ALONE in the multiverse.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?
Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Having multiple versions of the same plot/relationships, same days/dates, same characters requires me to have an Excel spreadsheet and multiple word docs with lists and information stored on them to keep my brain on straight. I also have three different Family Trees that span 15 years (so far) to keep up with babies’ births and relationship additions to this humongous family I’m including in The Spanners Series (which is based on MINE, and not even all of that!). Even with all that and many documents open as I’m writing, I often have to go re-read my own books to find how I described someone or what occurred in a particular circumstance that now pertains to the chapter I’m writing. I need a fact-checker and a consistency auditor!
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I didn’t know how angry I was at some people who have been in my life nor in how much contempt I may hold some of them until readers asked me why I made certain characters so “jerky” and rather unlikable!

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I hope to “Crowdcreate” Volumes VIII (inviting teens and young adults to contribute ideas and/or write chapters) and IX (inviting New Adults and older Adults to contribute ideas and/or write chapters) and Volume X (inviting all readers to submit questions, requests and ideas for what is missing or should be included that Volumes I – IX did not). Just one question: was the answer to:

Formatting error: somehow it left out my response, which is: “A lot of my characters and situations are factual, somewhere in the multiverse, where everything that can happen is happening. It’s up to the readers to decide which ones!”
