Name DeCota A. Jaymes

Age 33

Where are you from Augusta Georgia

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I went to school for accounting, decided I didn’t like it so I switched to psychology. My family suffered so I put it on hold. I have been a stay at home mom for the past 8 years. I have a wonderful husband who is my number 1 fan and 4 amazing kids.

Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?

I started 3 years ago. I realized I could read more books in a week than I could afford….lol. writing them is an adventure. I don’t outline beforehand so I never know where the story will take me.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

Lol when my bff read my first book The Power of Three (unedited and extremely rough). She wasn’t a reader before she ready book.

Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?

I was bored one day and just started writing and here I am.

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

I’m a 1st person writer.  Menage is where I am good at so I stick with it.

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?

Some I have before I have the story.  Others don’t show up until I’m a few chapters in. A scene may have an extra meaningful part where the title ties into the story.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Survival. Emotional abuse, verbal and physical. Seeing they aren’t the only ones going through it is what I hope for. Something relatable to real life.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I add my own experiences in them at times.

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Little of both. My past was rough so I take mainly mine. It’s my own type of therapy.

Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?

There are too many to say. As for mentors, I just have a strong love of all authors.  They put themselves out there for all the world to applaud or criticize.  I’ve always stayed in my shell, they all helped me come out.

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

Well…I’m in the middle of writing.  I read when I get blocked. Lately it hasn’t happened, which is good for me.

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I don’t really pay attention if they’re new or not. I really hate that label.  If they are great writers should be all that matters. To answer your question, I just read. New or old.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

I’m working on a menage paranormal with another author as well as a menage romance by myself.  Both I hope will be out in or near October.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

My wonderful friends. I have many authors who have become like a second family to me. When I feel like giving up, they won’t let me.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

I do. It still gives me the opportunity to spend time with my family.

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

Nope. If I second guess myself too much it could be bad.

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Not from school that’s for sure.  Lol. I hated it then. It’s way of being creative.

Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Well,  I have one about a divorcee who has 2 kids. Her time is separated between keeping her kids safe and solving a crime with her three lovers.  Too many secrets and not enough bullets.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Hehe.  I can’t write well with the kids fighting so I have to wait until everyone goes to bed. It makes the morning come too fast.

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I can’t single one in particular. I have many and their styles are what inspired me to chose the genre I write in.

Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?

Not yet. Most of them I do with a areas immediately familiar with. I hope to travel for research purposes soon.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

Harris Channing did The Power of Three.

Jess Buffet did Sucker Punched and any future covers.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Tying in ally crazy ideas. Mainly I have a dream and bam it’s a story.  Unfortunately I have to fill in the blanks.

Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I have learned a lot. Mostly to research thoroughly. There’s always someone out there to make a fictional book incorrect by their standards because of facts. Smh. It’s fiction…as in not real.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Don’t let your dream go because you have doubt.  Everyone does and in all things it’s trial and error.  No, you won’t please everyone.  Don’t worry about them. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters.  It’s why I try to not have second thoughts about my work. I think too much and end up hating the piece when others love it.

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I love all readers. Keep the reviews coming so I know if I’m still on spot.

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?

 Oh geez…I don’t. Sounds bad I know.

Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?

I’m an emotional basket case. I cry at sappy songs books and movies.  I laugh at the corniest things ever.

Fiona: Is there one person past or present you would meet and why?

Wow. I really haven’t thought about it.  I guess I would have to say Joan of Arc. She stood up for what she believed in and I admire her for it. There are many things about me I can’t let certain people know. Yes I’m an adult but it’s a pride thing. I want to stand up for things I am passionate about. Being DeCota, I can. I may hide behind a pen name but my stories have bits of truth to them.

Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?

Here lies one bad ass mama…..hehe kidding. Seriously I would want something sentimental like : loving mother and wife amazing author and a kind hearted soul…..the daughter part is not important to me. If you read my books it will be clear.

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

Reading.

Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

Pretty Little Liars  and The walking dead.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

Pineapple and mushroom pizza, purple, everything bit classical and religious

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

Nothing. I’m able to ear money while I stay at home with my family.  What more could I ask for?

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?

No blog or website as of yet. Just look me up on Facebook.  I have an author page and a profile page as well.
