Name Angela Schroeder
Where are you from Iowa
A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc
I was born and raised in Iowa. I love it here. I come from a close knit family. I adore my children. Eventually, I may finish college just to show my children that education is important.
Fiona: Tell us your latest news?
My very first book Love Overcomes will be released in just a few days Tuesday November 6, 2014.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
I started writing in grade school. I went to my first writer’s conference in 5th grade (I think it was 5th, it may have been 4th) and I absolutely loved it. I was published in my high school literary magazine. I wrote to express myself.
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I have always considered myself a writer. I may not have always shared what I wrote but I have always been a writer.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
My first book that I own the rights to was inspired by a conversation I had with my sister.
Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?
I have been told I am a punster. I sit down and write. I do not plot anything out at all.
Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
There was a lot of debate about the title for Love Overcomes. I had thought it may be a series. I was not sure. I talked it over with my mom and a few author friends and finally decided that Love Overcomes sounded the best out of everything else I had come up with.
The Second Life of Magnolia Mae (contracted with Blue Tulip Publishing) that just popped into my head. I don’t have a release date for this book yet.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Love Overcomes comes with the message that everyone has something in their past that can hold them back from happiness if you allow it to do so. You have to not allow it, the past is that past and there is nothing you can do about it.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?
I think my debut novel is one that many people will be able to relate to. It is a sweet contemporary romance.
Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
The plot was based on a conversation I had in real life, does that count?
Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most?
The Little House Series is what I read over and over. I knew then I wanted to write like Laura. When I got older I fell in love with Austen, Tolkien, and Lewis.
Fiona: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
I really do not think I could choose. I think it depends on what I am in the mood to write. I have some amazing author friends who have helped me through the process of getting my first book published. I cannot choose just one person. I could not choose one even if you asked me to choose from authors I had never met.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
Rivers by Jennifer Rae Gravely, it is the second book in Orders of the Sky series.
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I do not know how new anyone is, I guess since my debut book has yet to be released I am the newest. I adore Wendy Knight, Kelly Martin, Jennifer Rae Gravely, and Heather Gray.
Fiona: What are your current projects?
The Second Life of Magnolia Mae (it should have a release date soon, I just finished edits), Return to Toyland, Girl Among Wolves, and a middle grade fantasy series I have yet to name.
Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
I’d have to say God.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Absolutely, I freelance as well. So writing is what I do even when I am not writing for my own books.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
My family has always been talented when it comes to writing. I am sure it had something to do with reading a poem my grandma wrote or a poem my sister wrote, or hearing a song that my dad wrote.
Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I have added three teasers at the bottom
Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Editing is the hardest part but it is worth it. By the time I am half way through it I start to enjoy it but the beginning of it I am shaking my head wondering what in the world is going on.
Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
It depends on genre really but overall I have to go with Tolkien. He created a wonderful world filled with amazing and horrible creatures. I absolutely love his work.
Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
I have yet to travel for anything. I do know there has been talk of doing some but as of right now I do not know when or where.
Fiona: Who designed the covers?
Someone who works for Anaiah Press designed the cover for Love Overcomes.
Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Editing, that first round of content edits was the hardest part.
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
I learned that anything worth having is going to be a pain. It is not going to come to you easily, not many people are lucky enough to have things simply handed to them. You have to work for what you want. It may even make you want to throw in the towel but you won’t.
Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?
Your first draft is always going to need to be improved upon so just keep writing and forget about that typo, don’t read back through the whole thing. Keep writing until you are finished then go back through it.
Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you for taking the time to read my book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
It was a popup Beauty and the Beast book. I loved that book. The first book with real content that I recall reading was Little House on the Prairie.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
My kids make me laugh, they are funny.
I hate seeing people and animals hurt.
Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?
Hmmm this is a tough question. Peter Jackson, I love how he can stay so true to a book when creating amazing movies.
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?
Hmm, never thought of that. I suppose my name, hopefully that I was a good mother. I want to be a good mom. I think that is the most important thing you can do, is to raise your children and let them know that you love them, that you will be there for them. They are the greatest legacy anyone can leave behind.
Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?
Reading, spending time with my family, origami (I learned how to do it to amuse my children).
Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I do not watch a lot of television. I do enjoy BBC. They make a lot of wonderful shows. I would love to be able to watch their shows as they come available but I have to wait for Netflix to get them. Otherwise I watch a lot of cartoons and old movies with the great actors of the past like Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.
Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music
Do not have a favorite food. I don’t have a favorite color either so my youngest informed me that it is purple. I jump back and forth with music though I do love Celtic.
Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?
Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?
Plus I can be found over at Four Foxes One Hound on Wednesdays.
You can find me on Facebook as well.
