Name Dylan Cross

Age: 10 (I was born on Leap Day)

Where are you from: Chicago

A little about your self `ie your education Family life etc

I received my higher education at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.  I presently live in the Chicago suburbs with my dysfunctional family.

Fiona: Tell us your latest news?

I’m working on the Erotic Authors Guild project.  It will be an organization which will unite erotica writers and give us one voice.

Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I think it was once I started earning enough to fill an SUV’s gas tank (which isn’t easy in this day and age…)

Fiona: Do you have a specific writing style?

Nothing specific… I’ll just use whatever works.  First person, second or third… depends on what seems to fit.

Fiona: How do you come up with the title?

Sometimes I just ponder over it.  In some cases, I’ll write under a “working title” which 90% of the time becomes the actual title.

Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I try to make the characters “real,” especially the female characters.  Amanda (Road Trip, Amanda’s Descent) and Joanna (Fair Trade) are plus-sized, but the men who enjoy them don’t seem to mind.

Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?

I try to stick to realistic, and to carefully consider whether a character’s actions are believable.  If a female lead is being blackmailed into something, why wouldn’t she just do X instead of complying with Y?

Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Road Trip evolved from a car ride with an old girlfriend, in which I made her exhibit herself.  Back to School was based upon a friend’s Facebook status… she mentioned that she’d gone into the high school to pick up her daughter and got yelled at because they thought she was a tardy student.

Fiona: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

Shayne McClendon is an excellent role model for writers in our genre…

Fiona: What book are you reading now?

I haven’t had time to read anything for a while…

Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I like what I see from relative newcomers like Kimber Sharpe and Raven Rayne.

Fiona: What are your current projects?

December was my “Finish Strong” event, which lasted most of the month.  January features my “Steamy Sunday” Super Bowl event, part of which focuses upon supporting the Guild.  I’ve had very little time to write but am looking forward to getting back into it.

Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.

The people in the Guild project have been very supportive.  For the most part, erotica authors tend to help each other out.

Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?

Not yet, but I’m working on it!

Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I was fairly satisfied with the way Amanda’s Descent turned out…

Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I used to write a creative journal in conjunction with my playing a Madden football video game.  I invented an entire fictional league and would write about the team’s activities, as if I were a beat writer or sideline reporter.

Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

It’s difficult to start and to finish.  The stuff in the middle comes pretty easily…

Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I like just about everything from Stephen King… I just enjoy the writing style.

Fiona: Who designed the covers?

I design most of my covers myself… usually, I’ll look for a picture in the Creative Commons and then work from there…

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Knowing when it’s done… usually I think I’m finished and then will realize that something doesn’t fit, or something else such as another entire scene would fit really well.

Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thanks for the support!

Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ?

I do software development on the side… recently I’ve been editing the Football Squares application which I found on a GPL…

Fiona: What TV shows do you enjoy watching?

Revolution and Grey’s Anatomy… and, nothing tops Revenge in the documentary category.

Fiona: Favorite foods / Colors/ Music

I like fried chicken… blue… and a wide variety of music.  My iPhone contains both John Denver and Snoop Dogg…

Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

I’ve done quite a bit…

Fiona: Do you have a blog/website? If so what is it?
